I bought something deeply discounted over the weekend on Lowes.com for in-store pickup. Right after I completed the transaction the merchandise disappeared from the website ... just as it should have. inventory is now zero and the price jumps from the blowout price to the full non-stock price.

15 minutes later I get a cancellation phone call, with somebody at the local store telling me my order has been cancelled because the merchandise does not exist in the store. "Counts are off," they said.

A few minutes after my order gets cancelled the merchandise reappears on the web site, but only for a few minutes and then disappears permanently.

Got any idea what's going on here???

Your **** just got ganked

Someone should make an online purchase while in the store on their mobile. Hang out and watch to see what happens. Call that ***** out when they try to gank your order!

That would be great -- get in-store video of them stealing your stuff! Post it on YouTube!

Or better yet, position yourself so you are standing behind the guy when he calls you on the phone to tell you that your merchandise is not in-stock, and you reply, "I can see you holding it, you big dummy."

I have actually taken my tablet in the store and placed an order, just to see how they responded. Can't say that I caught them doing anything wrong. It's been a while since I did that. My last 3 orders over the weekend all got canceled. I'm thinking about doing it again. especially since I placed an order before the store opened ,they canceled my order ,then sold the 2 items at the register.
I'm seeing the same thing. Item was heavily discounted, count dropped to 0, then went back to 1 at full price.

Lowes will email you usually within an hr or so when the order was placed. Regardless if they actually pulled it or not.

I ordered a bunch of lumber, etc. to build a shed. An hour later, email came in and said it was ready. Drove there and showed them the email. They said it was generated automatically. They cancelled the order and I pulled my own stuff.

Lowe's needs to REMOVE the pricing information for those orders, as really all employee should be doing is PULL the items from shelf. Their only job should be FINDING Quantity on the order . . that's it. HIDE all the pricing info from rank-and-file-employee.

Those . . . . ganked . . . stories really piss a guy off. Think it's happened to me once when I ordered closeout-priced item at Lowe's 50 miles away and about ready to drive there and pickup . . . when I got the "cancellation" email. I called and got the "incorrect pricing" or "inventory count incorrect" BS line. :eyecrazy:

To be fair, isn't that what you would expect to happen if they told the truth? Your order is cancelled, stock returns to one, then the inventory is deleted in the system and it's closed out, back to zero.

I don't think all of these incidents are people getting jacked. Sure it happens, but Lowe's inventory tracking is also terrible.

My experience has primarily been that I order an item on clearance, usually only 1 in stock, I get a cancellation call and then the stock goes back to one and stays at one cause they never close it out. I bet they get order after order for the same item.

Maybe, just maybe, they are just getting better at inventory control. I doubt it, you probably just got jacked, but it is possible.

Ive only had this happen when there are 1 or 2 left of something pretty much regardless of price

Next time I see something like this on the web, I will go to the store and order just to see what happens.

I honestly think a lot of it is just laziness on their part, nothing to do with price. If inventory shows 1 or 2, chances are its not easy to find/in its normal location. Once the person pulling the order sees that I think they just give up and call it "counts are off". I've never seen something like that come back onto the web, though.

If I did catch them doing something worse you can bet I wouldnt be as nice as saying "I see you holding it you big dummy". Not that its illegal, but Im sure corporate would be very interested to hear the story (didnt GMC just do this?), especially if you could get it on video!

I just ordered some lights for my living room, 90% off from two different stores, both only showing 1 in stock. Both orders fulfilled, ready for pickup.

Not all experiences are negative.

Post again when you have them in your hand
But in all honesty, lights aren't as hot as tools, so you're more likely to get your order filled. Grats on the deal ~

Just picked them both up. Both brand new, in the sealed box. At the first store the guy even commented about how good of a deal I got on them. Total discount was actually closer to 95% off.

While yes I agree there are many instances of employees taking items for themselves, I still have more success than failure. And in the past month I've had multiple employees go above and beyond for me. Just figured I'd share a positive experience on here :)

success vs. failure depends on what you're shopping for. low demand items don't get ganked. there's not a large secondary market fencing light fixtures at flea markets.

Did you get your Husky tool chest issue squared away?

this is partially true. but just last week i bought the bosch planer for <$30, the 12v hitatchi combo <$20, and the 4 tool porter kit < $80. all of which were fulfilled...
on the other hand i bought a dewalt kit which had three in stock, stock went to 2, order FULFILLED (ready to pickup email sent, cc charged), i then called to confirm it was ready, and they told me it wasn't available and refunded me over the phone. i checked back 10 min later and stock went to 0. obviously something fishy going on there. i was more annoyed that the charge was actually put through on my card, rather than just an authorization that drops off after a few days for any canceled order. if i hadn't called, what would have happened? would i ever had been refunded? i dunno...

we can go back and forth on this but really it's just a mixture of luck and perseverance.

Compressor is here and paid for, now just got to go back and pick it up. So if you guys do keep running into those issues try customer service. They went to bat for me.

Just did the break-in on my Dewalt compressor. Noise level isn't that bad. It's actually quieter than my Ridgid pancake. Still gotta go back down and fill the tank to check for any leaks

I went ahead and proactively pulled the switch and regulator off my compressor and teflon taped the pipe on the tank bung side and the switch side. Aired up great, no leaks and is reasonably quiet.

I also ordered one of those Bosch impacts. I'll post back with success or failure.

I just got the call that they "can't find the item."

Would it be worthwhile for me to email corporate? I'm tempted to run over and see if the impact is there or not...
