Thanks for reposting that link. I stopped in at my local Lowes and they had the 2 on the shelf that the inventory online was showing. So I picked up my 2 for $15.38. I have been wanting a slightly longer reel to replace one I have in my garage already.

Thanks everyone!

I got this kit for $67.99 at an East Columbus Ohio Lowes (Brice Rd):

Kobalt 3-Tool 12VMax 1.5Ah Lithium Ion Kit (drill/driver, Impact Driver, Saw)
Item # 233384
Model # CKT312K

http://www.lowes.com/pd_233384-4085...4&UserSearch=233384&productId=50066119&rpp=32

Originally $199, is currently $169 on the website. I actually bought this two days ago (2/3/15), it was on clearance for $99. Today (2/5/15) both the shelf (which was now empty) and the display model are now labeled as $67.

So I pulled the receipt from my wallet, went to the customer service counter and was able to get a price adjustment credit from $99 down to $67. I assume since they showed one still in stock (the display). Note, the display model is missing the batteries and chargers, which sadly was the case with many of their display models.

If you happen to find one still on a shelf, have them check inside the box that it has everything. A few of their shelf items had been previously opened or returned and were missing parts, mostly batteries and chargers....

I picked this up today for 30 something out the door, they had it marked for 33$ and used a 10% off and it is a nice set for the money. odd saw, but good drill and impact. the batteries are charging now.

Lowe's off 288 in Denton, Texas had one for the $67 earlier today but I passed. It seemed like pretty light-duty stuff, nice kit, but I usually use my cordless drill and impact pretty hard. I do like a good chuck on the drill as well, for the same reason, which it seemed like it may lack. Seemed like good med/light duty stuff though for the money.

You are correct, it is definitely light duty. I'm in the middle of finishing the inside of my pole barn with OSB and got tired of holding my heavy 12 year old full size Porter Cable all day just to drive scews. I actually went their hoping to get the 12v PC kit mentioned here but they were out , and I saw this kit.
I used the little Kobalt drill all day yesterday, it worked great, is small and light weight, and is not uncomfortable when hung on the belt. I will say that it was able to drive a 3 inch screw into a treated 6x6, but that is probably getting near the limit for the drill/driver. The impact driver had no problem but it was much slower at it. Not sure how long it will last, but does have a 5 year warranty....

Picked up that 3-piece deal today. Light duty for sure (More like a big electric screwdriver than a small drill) but the impact feels pretty well made. I'll use it around the house for sure.

I picked up one of the hammers last weekend. Used the Lowes app to scan it and it was higher than the original price. Sure enough, the model number was different. Someone had mixed 1 or 2 of the new ones in with the old despite no box or shelf sticker denoting a different hammer. Oddly, the cashier confirmed the number on the hammer itself after scanning the tag--no idea if an irate customer grabbed the wrong hammer and demanded the lower price or if it was something else. I ended up paying a few dollars more for another masonry tool in Savannah the day prior, something tells me it was a "new" model tossed in the yellow-stickered box.

This same thing happened (in another state) when they started selling redesigned pipe wrenches around the 2013 holiday season, with someone mixing new (higher priced) ones in with old (clearance) ones. In short, check the tag and tool against the clearance tag.

I checked all the stores in the Puget Sound Seattle metro. Only other one I found with them on clearance was N Seattle. 42.33

My coworker said he wanted one so I ordered one for him today also. I went to pick them up tonight and they only had one in stock. Funny thing is, the paperwork says the one I got is the one I ordered today, not last night...?

This thing is a beast for $13.62!

Is $89 a good deal for that kit? It doesn't seem like it to me.

I ordered the last one at a store for around $10. There is one for around $19 but I don't feel like driving out that far. Maybe I can stop by the store near my house tonight and have them price match the $19? The risky part is that once someone buys that last one for $19, the price on the website and app change to $76 and I have nothing to show them. I haven't picked up the one I got for $10. Are they worth a bit of a drive for $19?

The Champaign IL store had a bunch of those $5 brick hammers. They also still had a lot of the concrete and brick tools on clearance. Then the gearless ratchets sets were back to $10. The 1/4 sockets sets both metric and SAE $5. The 3/8 and 1/2 sockets were also clearance priced. This is as of about 15 minutes ago. Sorry no pics.

Dewalt DW257 Scrugun: $56.69
Stanley MR33 Hi-Visibility Riveter: $2.87

Got the last Scrugun and last two riveters on the shelf in Americus, GA. The above prices are with 10% additional discount. A quick search shows the Dewalt selling for $85+ and the riveter for @$10.

Incidentally, I will be hanging a fair amount of drywall soon, so the DW257 should get some good use. I'm hoping the 800w inverter will work as the house has no power and my generator turned into cocaine a couple of years ago (along with a lot of other stuff--thieving bastards). A quick calculation shows the drill pulls 744 watts.

Yea they are good. I have craftsman rebranded version but that one is 12 guage and only 40 feet. The wind up part broke on my craftsman but that was because of a weak thin injection molded part that holds the sprong gear in the housing. I ended up grabbing some JB weld pudy and filled the plastic molding around the gear and it's been working fine for the last 5 years. That's the main complaint in the bad reviews, that the spring mechanism brakes. It's an Easy fix. For under 20 bucks they are great reals.

I hate those screw guns. The Senco is a bit more money and the strip screws as well, but it makes up for it in time saved and much more pleasurable experience!

I'll try it, and if I don't like it then I can always make a few dollars selling it to someone like my brother (who has a bunch of DW corded and cordless tools, but not one of these).

Why not just use a cordless driver?

I very well may, as that was my initial plan. Most likely I'll try both. I'm kind of wary of pushing the limits of that inverter, and don't like the thought of dragging a cord around when I've got other options.

I'll also check reviews of that Scrugun again; overall they seem outstanding at 5 stars, but if more substantial reviews are negative I'll take them into consideration. Honestly, it is more long-term of an investment anyways. After this project I will have little use for it until my (hopeful) retirement in 7 years.

Not an employee, but I've been fanatical about Lowe's clearance stuff since late 2013 and first started looking for deals there in 2011. Having been to most stores between Savannah and Richmond, along with a number along the Gulf Coast, I can say with confidence that there is no method to the madness.

Each store has its own schedule. Walk into South Savannah and find 75% off, while Pooler is 30% off and Hinesville is 10% off a certain item. The same stores may be 180 degrees on something else, with Hinesville offering the lowest price. Just as often, all stores will be at a similar price point and luck of the draw will put you at the right place at the right time. When I was looking for that PC 12v Max combo I found it listed for anywhere between $70-ish to $199 (Hinesville still has one at that price) at stores from Savannah to Florence, SC. I had some work to do near Americus and found a display marked $159. The shelf was marked $39, though, so I ended up with the display for under $36.

I used to play the waiting/watching game with Sears. Watched a Milwaukee Magnum drill slowly come down from $130 to $65. Was hoping to see it drop further but an RTV sticker was placed on it, so I grabbed it while I could. Another time I stopped in to find a 12A Sawzall with case and blade assortment for $28. Needless to say I bit instantly. This thread is helps tremendously, but it is no substitution for footwork.
