If you need some insulation, Lowe's is clearing out the Johnson Manville insulation to make room for Owens Corning. Looks like 20% off now. Ymmv as it may be a local or regional thing, but wanted to let you know.

Darn. This is about two months too soon for me.

I'll store it for you..... in my walls and ceiling
:lol_hitti

OP - thanks for the tip about the 20%, I was watching it regularly, but haven't been to Lowes in awhile now.

Does anyone else think the big box stores sell insulation at a premium..... and now at 20% off, its just about "normal" pricing??

I got R19 craft faced for $0.37 sq/ft here in Lexington, KY. I can now insulate the garage I still haven't built.

Also picked up some extra R13 for home remodels for less per sq/ft.

My mom and pop store buys from Lowes and marks up accordingly. I know its not an awesome deal, but its cheaper than paying someone to do blown in cellulose in the walls at this point.

The 20% off is on only some J-M batts. The price of insulation is so all over the place I'm not sure the sale is any sale at all. I am in the market for insulation, R19 or so for my soon-to-be-built garage, and I've searched extensively. Right now the J-M sale can get me R21 at about $0.54 a sq ft, but I can get Certainteed R19 a Menards for $0.29 sq ft. But, that is for only one size of the kraft faced -- the other packages are much more. I guess it is moot, as there are no Menards in my state!

I can get Roxul R15 at $0.79 sq ft, and R23 at $1.14 sq ft. If either of those approached the price of fiberglass I'd be all over it.

If you look in the Lowes deal thread under Hot Deals, there is a code for $15 off $50 that you can use with it. I just bought some more online using that code and plan to return it with my other receipt after work tonight. That got the 23" R-19 batts down to $44.** with tax. Not complaining one bit @ $.33sq/ft.

You can get Owens Corning R-15 for 3.5" walls now from HD for about $.50/sqft, so there is a good alternative to the Roxul now for cheaper. It's a lot denser than the old R-13 stuff.

I have heard that sometimes you can get an insulation company to do the insulation job for you and in some cases the cost can be less than you doing it yourself. It might be worth looking into before you go out and buy a bunch of insulation. Keep in mind companies that do insulation jobs are buying the insulation in huge amounts and they can buy it fairly cheaply when they buy in bulk.

I just had a local company install the insulation for a little less per square foot than what it was going to cost me to buy the materials at Lowes. I compared the same R-values and did the math twice. They did it in just over two hours and it would have taken me most of the weekend.

I've got a buddy who is a residential contractor.

He told me never diy. The local insulation company will install it cheaper than I can buy it.

I'm hard headed. I did it myself. Since we were renovating the building ourselves every room was in different stages. I couldn't call them room by room.

The difference between me doing my walls and having a local company doing it was $100. I would have to have made 14 trips to HD just to get the rolls home plus the staples plus my time...... A no brainer in my book.
