Just got back from the Milford, CT store in the driving rain, all went well.

I ordered mine on Wed. with the workaround Wiggum shared with us and it worked. Then on Thursday I got a call from the store saying it was a mistake, they were out of stock and they had refunded my money. I called and asked for a supervisor and got a great gal named Linda. She questioned why such a low price and I told her that there were two models, older 1.65HP and a newer 2.0 and that the old ones were the ones they were moving on sale. She checked and her computer said there were supposed to be 2 left so she put me on hold for a few minutes and went and found it for me. When I got there today it was sitting in the middle of the store in the box with my name on it. Older V style, new in the box, $195 out the door.

Thanks Wiggum!

There may be one more left at that store, she said there were two, just make sure you ask for item #221495, that's the older, better model.

Is anyone else's oil black after initial use?

Dan, I'm answering your question over here to keep the deal thread uncluttered.

I just opened the drain valve on 1 of the 2 compressors I bought last weekend (at the same Lowes as you) and let it run for 30 minutes. The oil did not change color at all.

The other compressor is a little too low on oil to my liking so I am going to get some more and top it off before I fire it up.

Man, this search has been on my mind for days. Zero. Looks like this great deal isn't in my future!

LOL everybody has kobalt compressor fever!.

I cant blame anybody though, I drooled at this compressor since they were brought out last year right after I bought the previous 26 gallon Kobalt compressor on clearance!

I bought one yesterday. When I took the box off, I noitced a oil stain inside the box and the impression in the cardboard from the cage for the belt. This lets me that at some point, the box was turned upside down. The oil site glass shows that it appears to be filled. I tried calling the 1-888 help number but they it's only Mon-Fri. Do you think it's ok to use? The stain isn't a big stain but it's noticeable.

Thanks,
Curt.

If the oil looks up to level, etc. and you have had it upright for a day, you ought to be fine.

I took the box off last night to read the owners manual so it's been sitting awhile. I level does look full and I think I will wait to until Monday to talk to the 1-888 number and put it on record and see what they say. Thanks for the reply and I think it should be ok like you said.

File under Happy Accidents: when I went to pick mine up (thanks again wiggum!), the woman at customer service asked if I'd meant to buy two.

Er, no I said, but do you have two? Yes, she said.

Soooooo, two are now sitting in my storage until the house closes next month. I mean, it would have been bad mojo to cancel an order, right? Right?

No one so much as commented on the pricing, even when I went back in to get a receipt on the second one and she had to reprint.

All this in sunny Western New York.

Best to all!

I just picked mine up today for the $183.60 price via the online order. They seemed to have an issue locating the compressor or it messed their system up a little. After 15-20 minutes of trying to figure it out, they finally came out with one. Thanks for the info Wiggum.

Just went and picked mine up.

Robert L was nice enough to send me a copy of his receipt so I went in armed. The clerk refunded me the $253 I paid online and it ended up costing me the $184. It was no hassle at all. His manager came over and scanned her ID and I was on my merry way.

The only thing is it isn't complete. It's missing one of it's filters along with the air pressure regulator, the regulated pressure gauge and the air line outlet. It only has the 1/4" pipe coming out of the pressure switch. I'm going to give Lowes a call tomorrow and see if I can get those parts. If not, I will call the manufacturer.

Anyone else have any issues like that? If you did, did it turn out OK in the end?

Out of curiosity, and I truly am asking this because I do not know, but if you paid cash ($184x2) for 2 compressors and returned one without receipt and received the full price ($4xx) back on a gift card is this illegal? What is stopping people from doing this? Again, I am not doing this, what made me think about it was Jhelrey's post about selling one.

I would feel guilty. I just couldn't or wouldn't do it. Granted I have returned things that I probably should not have. I think it's pretty darn close to stealing.

Anyone know what I should do?

My manager told me to go to a different lowes tomorrow and act as a normal customer, and bring my print out. He said to do what people do at our store, INSIST they give it to me for that price, and don't take no for an answer.

Any zips still showing it at this price?

The air regulator is <$5.

Jedi mind tricks and one awesome, short lived, computer work around.

Thanks, I am going to try and get it for cheaper first... I.E., free.

We will see what the local Lowes has to say.

Do you think that regulator is accurate? I'm going to be using this compressor to run some small paint equipment. Since I will be learning I want to be able to trust that all the mistakes that I am making are my own and not in the machinery setup.

I really like the compressor but the regulator is very poor. It looks identical to the cheapie from HF.

If you're painting then I'd add a decent quality combination regulator/filter.

Makes sense. I will have to treat the air to dry it out, might as well add a regulator.

Thanks for the help. I am COMPLETELY new to HVLP/LVLP stuff.

Well, I got all of my parts for free.

Called the Lowes I bought it from and they had another one in the box. So I took mine back and traded it out. No questions asked. Much nicer looking unit. The floor model was obviously a floor model.

So, if anyone needs a floor model version (I was fine with it but couldn't turn down a in the box model) there is one at the Lowes in Vallejo CA.

I must say it was exciting reading about all the shenanigans everybody went through to get one!

Exciting indeed!:rocker:

Mine's still in the box in the garage, in the process of determining whether to set it up in the garage or the basement. Leaning towards the basement and running a line through the wall into the garage. It will also be next to my Bilco doors for when I need it for outside work like framing. Did order some Goodyear rubber and a length of Flexzilla though, tired of the pvc I've been using.

I paid $181 out the door and am very happy with the compressor.

It seems pretty high quality. (Made by Sanborn, twin cast iron pump, belt driven, oil lubrication and quiet.)

This is probably the last of the good small compressors since everyone is moving to these low end direct drive Chinese units.

My only beef is the crappy air regulator but it's not a big deal.

I charged the tank Saturday and it hasn't dropped in pressure since that time.
