Will they warranty the product or do we have to find the 2 stores in the state that'll do it still?

They said they'll be honoring all Craftsman warranties as they get the tools in.

The April 2nd release is some online-only (for now) tool sets. The store has Craftsman tool chests coming in this week, but won't be available for sale until the week of May 14.

Watch them add a "receipt required" to the original Craftsman warranty. That will render about 95% of warranties useless immediately. I don't think I have receipt for any of my craftsman stuff because it was purchased long before I ever thought about hanging on to receipts.

A little more timeline info, from a comment on toolguyd:

"the April 2nd launch is online only, with the nationwide rollout in stores on May 14th. It will be mostly tool storage and mechanics tools, with handheld power tools coming later in 2018 and the full line of outdoor power arriving in 2019. The full line rollout will take place over the next 12 to 18 months."

On the Lowes sight on the Craftsman section it says to select for presell. When you select that it says there is nothing available for presell. Kind of like shopping Craftsman on the Sears website.

LOL! They inherited the Sears curse...

Looks like a different style of ratchet on the Sears site versus the Lowes site.

Did i hear they are doing away with kobalt?

I'm sure that will depend on how well Craftsman sells and what tier Stanley prices it at. Pretty much everything posted up to this point is speculation.

However, they own the Kobalt name to do with as they please, so I speculate that they will keep it around. Stanley could always pull Craftsman off their shelves in the future or try to negotiate unfavorable contracts, so keeping Kobalt relevant would prevent them from having to start from scratch.

you can almost guarantee it will be receipt or their store models only for warranty. They just want to ride the brand name and hold none of the original promises or expenses.

The terms of the sale require them to honor existing Craftsman warranties.

They could add a receipt requirement for future sales, but that would be a logistics nightmare, since they would have to determine whether a tool was purchased before that requirement. I suppose they could change part numbers and track it that way. My guess is that they will not add the receipt requirement and that the warranty will remain unchanged.

Until they get store inventory they will probably do just like most Sears... They have to send it in for warranty and you can either pick up the new part or have it shipped to your home.

Looks like they finally have stuff up on the website. Link:

https://www.lowes.com/search?search...Craftsman:C:Tools:Merch:Craftsman_Presell_MOW

I will be interested to see if the tools all have the same individual Sears/Craftsman model numbers. Pictures don't show them. That could be one way that Stanley could differentiate their Craftsman with unique items or model numbers for the warranty.

Looks like the same four items previously posted. So far, the red cases contain the new products from Stanley Black & Decker.

Considering that we've had a year of people getting excited for the new "Made in USA" Craftsman coming out, it should be interesting to see how many of the new tool sets will be sold.

The speculation is that all this stuff is made in china via existing Craftsman suppliers until Stanley can get USA production rolling.

In the long run, i bet there will be some good USA items mixed in with Chinese stuff. Just keep your expectations low in the short term.

I certainly hope receipts aren't required. The last new craftsman tool I bought was probably 25 years ago. I have since just bought tools at swap meets knowing it had a lifetime warranty.

They don't currently require a receipt on kobalt (as far as my single warranty went). I could see them try to roll the craftsman warranty into their lowes club card thingie.

No receipt required, they process it as a return and give you a store credit card with the amount on it, and you go buy a new one.

I stopped by the LOWES HOME IMPROVEMENT stoe in Mebane NC an asked a store salesman in the tool dept. about CRAFTSMAN tools and when they to be introduced. He looked at me like a deer in the headlights.

I guess they haven't sent out the memo yet. ;) The products aren't expected in stores until May 14 according to what I read last week, so there's still time.

if you break stuff often enough you can be blocked from returns since they process it as a no receipt return and issue you store credit. And like most stores these days they use a third party to keep track of that stuff and flag your name.

do you know what company they use, I thought they handled their returns/blocks internally. HD & Best Buy use The Retail Equation (TRE). Exception returns done at TRE partners, will flag you for returns at their other clients. So a no-receipt return at BB could potentially result in not being able to do the same at BB. What the TRE does is overall good, but they have some tiny kinks that make it horrid.

Several US-made metal toolboxes, and they are keeping VersaTrack alive!

Glad to see the VersaTrack continue on since I bought into it back when the tracks were still USA made. Ended up with a bunch of the attachments cheap with points deals. Not sure I'll need more, but at least the option will be there!

Toolguyd has a sneak peek of the SBD Craftsman tool storage products they plan to release at Lowes in the coming months, posted 4/14/18: http://toolguyd.com/craftsman-tool-storage-products-new-for-2018/

There were a few display models out yesterday. I fondled them a little, but they didn't seem special to me. They felt a lot like the milwaukee and dewalt toolboxes at HD. I think the 52" was listed as $300 for the bottom and $200 for the top.
