Surfing Lowe’s website out of boredom, they have a lot of different style wrench sets on clearance including the gunmetal and ratcheting.

I’m hoping this is a sign that the “Made in USA with global materials” mechanics tools might be right around the corner!?!

Or it means they ordered way too much of that Chinese junk and massively overestimated the number of suckers who would buy it just because it came in a red package that said Craftsman. Now they need to dump it for accounting reasons.

I dropped by my local Lowe’s an hour ago to pick up a gift card for Fathers Day. The Craftsman wrenches and socket displays were looking really bare... lots of yellow tags. Somethings going on...

They're bringing Kobalt back :lol_hitti

Lol! The little Kobalt section looks so sad and pathetic. I honestly don’t understand why they still have them. It would be nice if they brought back the better quality tools and made Kobalt an upscale brand.

When isn't Lowe's clearancing off mechanic's style hand tools? Seems like they do this all the time, especially in the local store....doesn't matter if its Kobalt, Craftsman, or whatever brand they're pushing that month.

I would buy Kobalt over Craftsman any day I have lots of each but I wouldn’t buy the Lowe’s Craftsman it ***** I have the old Kobalt that was made by Williams and the ones made by Lowe’s in Taiwan they have held up great even when they do bring the Craftsman back to USA I bet sales will still be down they ruined the name badly.

Same here ^ I've got several sets of USA Craftsman & Lowe's Kobalt wrenches— from clearances at pretty great discounts— that have also held up great. I enjoy using the smooth Kobalt's, as I don't have too many Craftsman Industrial's. Forgot that the Sears store was closing and so was late to the Sears close-out party. :(

That ***** you were late lol mine closed in October I got tons of stuff there I even snagged some NOS USA sockets that I found in a pile of sockets they had set out and when the lady scanned them they wouldn’t ring up so I got them for free because the manager said since they had to get rid of everything just give them to him and it was 10 minutes before closing so they didn’t seem to care it was the third to last day.

Kobalt is my preferred “need it now” cheap brand.

That was a great deal. The Sears we were at closed I think in 2016, and we had not heard it was closing, but just happened to be driving by one day, approx 4~5 days after the close-out started. :eyecrazy: Although they still had a ton of 3/4" Craftsman Industrial wrenches and sockets in both open stock & sets. But not much 1/2" or 3/8" left by then. I remember wondering where it all came from....as I had shopped there many times, looking for USA Craftsman, and there was never any Craftsman Industrial for sale in the retail aisles! Maybe it was all kept in the back storerooms....and only sold if specifically asked for? I don't know. :dunno:

I seen very few industrial Craftsman at mine also if any I wondered about that too. Mine was supposed to close in December of 2018 but had way too much stuff that they didn’t want to move out so they kept open till October 2019. I couldn’t beat the free sockets though that was a steal.

Right now something is going on. They are having a lot of issues with backorder items for their tool chests too. Drawer slides are 6-10 weeks in some cases.

Lowe's shot themselves in the foot in the Kobalt vs Craftsman decision, in my opinion. And not because I hold Kobalt in high regard.

I agree Kobalt in my opinion is much better I have some of their tools that I use as a professional mechanic and haven’t broken them I even have to old USA ones made by Williams I get them all second hand at the pawn shops never have broken one. I did buy a few new to complete my set and they have held up nicely as well I use the wrenches sockets pliers and screwdrivers I have at only one pair of pliers from them and use them a lot.
