My buddy called me from the Lowes in Florence, SC and told me he just picked up several racks of Kobalt sockets and wrenches that were now on clearance. I stopped at the Lowes in Laurinburg, NC on the way home and picked up a rack of 3/8drive deep SAE12pts for $9!

i went today; its pretty good
9$ for 8-19 deep
8$ for 8-19 shorts
same with the equivalent sae
and the 8-19 wrenches were on sale too for 20$
i bought it a set of deep and short sae and metric and two sets of metric wrenchs; needed some extras and that's close to HF prices for better wrenches

Ive seen some new Mechanics tool sets at lowes, both Taiwan and China made. They've expanded to some bigger tool sets now in cardboard boxes like some of the larger craftsman sets. I think there was a 2XX piece set and maybe a 3XX piece set? of the Taiwan tools.

Ive also seen new sets, Kobalt branded, of chrome wrenches and sockets that were chinese made. But they were waaay overpriced. ill post pics later but im too lazy tonight

This set has attachment wrenches and 3/8'' drive sockets that go with the "speedfit" handle. Extension and Sockets are laser engraved only. no stamping or color coding like the taiwan ones.

There was a bigger 99 piece (?) set that had more Chinese sockets and if im correct wrenches.

If you break one of the chinese sockets do you warranty it for a Taiwan one?

Here's and Idea

Buy a set. Break a socket. Return it. Exchange it and see what you get. :D

so Kobalt or the napa line that is being clearanced.

I don't think Lowes is closing out the sets that are on sale. They're just offering them at a more reasonable price.

My only issue with the current Kobalt sockets is that the sizes aren't stamped on the socket, only laser etched.

As for the NAPA closeout, the entire line of NAPA professional hand tools is reduced 70% from list price to make room for NAPA's new Carlyle line. The sale doesn't apply to specialty tools or the evercraft line.

Gotta say, never paid much attention to the sockets at Lowes. But took a look today after reading this thread, and have to say I like the quality of the Taiwan stuff they have. Was tempted to buy one of their 1/4 drive 72 tooth ratchets after trying it, but decided not to. If they offered the 1/4 drive stuff in 12pt, I would've bought it on the spot for the $5 price tag.

I have quite a few Kobalt sockets. I think they are every bit as good as the US Craftsman Socket. I'm not a huge fan of the blue and Red stripe though. I also have there 3/8 ratchet (use it for throw down work) and I really like it. Its nice a smooth. Not sure it would handle pro work but for me its fine.

They have been clearanced out like this for over a month. I bought both a metric and sae set of them at the Florence store over a month ago.

They also have some of their Dual-Sided Socket Rails marked down. The 1/4" drive and 1/2" drive were both marked down to $4.97. The 3/8" drive were still regular price - $9.97.

I needed some 12pt sockets the other day working on my new Harley. I had to scroung and dig through my old c-man sockets to find them cause I haven't used them in years!

Looks like some of you guys missed the original post as I did. Glad y'all were able to score a deal.

I looked closely at the tag on the shelf, it says 'New Lower Price', same as the Knipex stuff. It's not just a short sale, but a damn good new price if they stick with it.

And that was short lived. Went by today to grab a set of 1/4 drive metric (was going to grab standard as well for the $5 tag), but everything was back up to full price, except for the Metric set I was going in to buy. It rang up at almost $20. Showed the cashier the display a couple feet away and he changed the price to the $5 tag.

Kinda wishing I would've grabbed a set of the stubby combo wrenches they had for $9 before they switched them back up to $25. Oh well...

Bought two sets yesterday, the 11pc 3/8 deep well 12pt metric and SAE sets for $9.95 each. Kind of hard to beat at that price, all though I do prefer 6pt sockets. Hell, you can't hardly even buy HF sockets at that price!

Now, if they would just clearance out their 20pc 3/4" socket set I would be happy!

So far I've bought the 1/4 shallows (metric and SAE) for $5 each. Same thing for the 3/8" shallows ($8 ea.) and deeps ($10 ea.) I was looking for some tools to keep in the truck and price\quality wise these are perfect. It would be great if they were made in the US but I'm happy they're at least Taiwanese and not Chinese.

I wish the 3/8 deeps were 6pt'ers (and held off buying them at first because of that) but for the price and purpose, who cares? The biggest thing I'm disappointed with is they never put the 1/4 deeps on sale, clearance, new price or whatever they want to call it. I wouldn't mind if they dropped the price on their thin line ratchets too!
