I would say taiwan (by looking at the fit and finish of the set online) but I can't be sure. Sometimes "sets" are made in different places than individual tools on some lines. Call em up and ask them or check it out in store. They do have chinese hand tools but they're typically the other lines (task force and blue hawk) are chinese.

Besides a nut driver everything I've bought kobalt recently was taiwanese and taiwan ain't THAT cheap. They mostly make good stuff in my opinion but some people on here aren't into it.

I stopped at a local Lowe's today (Silverdale, Washington) and looked at that set but it was listed as Made in Taiwan. Must be like the Gearwrench ratcheting wrench set, some China and some Taiwan. I guess the thing to do is check it before you buy it. Can you still use the $10 discount code at the store?

Just an update from my reply #6 above, all of the other sizes of Kobalt tool sets, from the very small to the larger sets were Taiwan made. Only the Kobalt 138 PC set # 0338516, and I checked nearly every one of them, said China. This was at Lowe's in Ft Walton Beach, FL., Panhandle. Hope it helps. And hope they are not shifting their production to China. Now its a rush to get the good Taiwan stuff before it gets replace by Chinese.

Indeed, some of the newer kobalt handtool stuff is chinatown instead of taiwantown.

Well...if they discontinue the taiwan stuff and throw it on deadstock clearance I'll probably end up with 50% of all their ****. I just hate the sae/metric mixes in some of the stuff, it means I'm getting 50% of the value because I don't use sae unless it's on replacement nuts & bolts I buy in the damn store! I don't want to start a whole thing though I do wonder why people adhere to a system that isn't consistently base 12; it's anarchy; sae is babylonian anarchy! Like yeah you have 10 fingers boss why you counting in 12s?

I was almost sold on this set except for the china thing and the fact that all of the 1/2" is 12 point...why is it that sets like this always go 12 point on the 1/2"? is it cheaper to make a 12 point socket or something?

Exactly. More steel and weight for 6-point.

Strange? the tools don't look any different from the picture on the front of the box, wonder if they still have Taiwan stamped on them.

I was in another Lowe's this morning and checked out this set. One of the boxes was open so I opened the case. Yes the tools/sockets were all stamped "Taiwan". Also, the whole stack of these sets at this store(East Bremerton, Wa) were all made in Taiwan.

Looks like the new ones have bit drivers with a black handle rather than the old grey style. Says made in china on the back, however the other tools don't look to have changed at all from the pic on the box. Strange

I asked about this in October, and it appears it's coming true.

I eyed the new wrench set, right now it's $49 and has both regular combination wrenches and stubbies. AND... there's a 10mm stubby!

The Chinese wrenches appear to not quite be comparable to the Taiwan stuff, the engraving for the sizes/etc. is clearly not as nice. It's unfortunate as I like the Taiwan Kobalt stuff for the sale prices and it's pretty darn nice quality.

I saw a stubby wrench set marked china that looked suspiciously similar to the stanley stubby set they sell in walmart. Not cool bro, not cool.
