Lowe's/Kobalt air chisel set

I have had an air hammer for a year and decided to not buy chisels until I needed them. Today was that day. I'm removing a body lift that was installed years ago on our '77 FJ40. The bolts/nuts were rusted/seized to each other and PB Blaster didn't help.

I went to Lowe's and purchased their Kobalt air chisel set at 10:40:58.

Got home, put the first tool in the air hammer, and tried to use it. It dulled. Didn't even cut the bolt head off. Tried a 2nd tool. Same outcome.

I loaded up, drove back to Lowe's, and the refund was issued at 11:19:35.

That's the single worst tool purchase I've made.

So, who makes a quality set of air chisels

I actually have tried home depots husky and that set did pretty well for a few years!! What type of air hammer do you have?

Ajax or Old Forge (mayhew) Both USA.

Just purchased about $80 in specialty pieces (18" long reach, hammer head, wide scraper, etc) a few hours ago.

I am not sure how successful any of them will be at cutting body mount bolts though.

an air chisel wouldnt have been my 1st choice for deheading a body mount bolt.

that being said, all ive ever bought were matco and SO air chisel bits.

Wasn't mine, either. Every bolt I could get to with a wrench/ratchet snapped the head off.

For the ones I couldn't reach that I knew passed through the chassis without threading in, I figured I'd try to just grind the heads off and knock the shank of the bolt through the frame.

This is on a '77 FJ40 and EVERYTHING on the chassis and rear 3/4 tub is horribly corroded. Every bolt on the frame that I've touched has been seized and PB/Kroil/heat hasn't worked. It's been an adventure, for sure.

pick up some snap on's and you won't be dissappointed,i've had mine for over five years.and they get used pretty regularly.

It's a basket case. Lots of rust. Came from up north. Lots of salt on the roads. Engine runs like a sewing machine, though. New clutch and master/slave cylinder is in. It's almost ready for winter.
