I don't know if it's just a regional thing but while at Lowe's today, I picked up a fully polished Kobalt 1/2 drive ratchet for $4.05. They're discontinuing the fully polished Kobalt ratchets so, 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 drive models can be had at four dollars and a little change. The store I was in only had one 1/2 ratchet left.

For those that actually liked the USA Kobalt ratchets... if you have a Menards store in town they sell the Allen brand - which is essentially the same thing as the Kobalt. I have a couple Allen ratchets and like them well enough.

Probably the same as teh Craftsman Pros... I would actually bet the quality is at the very least as good as Gearwrench. Why would you use a 34mmm gearwrench anyway? Is it a clearance issue?

If it's made overseas, it's made by GearWrench. It does not matter what name is on it.

The 1/2 ratchet model number is 60296 on its sales rack holder. The racks were bare for the 1/4 and 3/8 except for the little yellow clearance sticker. Yes, it is a clone of NAPA, Allen, Craftsman, etc. It even has that little serrated arrowhead reversing lever like NAPA ratchets. For four bucks, I couldn't pass it up. Good luck in your area.

Any reports from other locations?

I'd like something long handle in a 1/2" drive.

106 available?? hmmm.... tempting.

Yeah, I've been watching it for a few days trying to make a decision. The New Britian number in the picture appears to be NS35. The current NAPA long 1/2 drive ratchet is NS67. I'm not sure if I could warranty it at NAPA if I broke it. Decisions, decisions,

Same here. The same guy actually has many models of NOS New Britains in large quantities.

A fellow whose opinion I greatly respect has said the "the last-generation New Britain" ratchets were some of his very favourites. Does anyone know if these are some of the "last-generation"?

it stated 80's 90's no my guess is yes.......i had a matco br8n from the early 80's made by NB that was a great ratchet, unfortunatly when it bit the big one it got replaced with the new thin head. it ok but doesn't have the nostalgia behind it. the matco guy i bought from in 80 only sold the NB stuff.......it was far better than the wright made ratchets.

106 of them, about a dozen sold in the last month, I'll wait until I hear a first hand report.

Without knowing more I would tend to favor one of the Proto 5450, which is about the same price and no questions on warranty etc.

I checked a local Lowe's in PA...no closeout.

I see some ratchets with 6xxxx model numbers but most with 2xxxx model numbers. I wonder if I missed it at this store?

I stopped by on the way to work but they didn't have any. Didn't take the model numbers with me so I'm not sure if they're gone already or just not marked.

Checked the two closest Lowe's. No closeouts, no bargains, nothing worth buying.

Lowe's locally have very little in the way of hand tools.
Not even compared to HD.
More like K-mart or Wal-Mart than Sears.

Sounds like the Lowes we have over here. Yawn.

Went to the Danville, IL Lowes and the only 1/2 ratchet I could find was 34.97 and was not on clearance. However, maybe not as good as deal but I found Task Force two piece 8in and 12 in crescent wrench set for $3.58 regular price was $8.96. Item no 109749 for anyone interested. Now I have crescent wrenches in the tractor, truck, ect..

I was at lowes (saginaw, MI) and found a bunch of the individual sockets on sale - no deals on rachets though.

I think my store had a couple of metric sockets on sale....like $0.50 off... :(

I went today but didn't see any ratchets on sale. But I did pick up a few things so the trip was alright. I really like their Angle Die grinders they got for $25. I may have to snag me one of those. But I remind myself I already have one for home and work. So more of a reason to get a Straight die grinder rather than an angled lol.

Kobalt hasn't gone down hill as much as Husky. Still skeptical of some of the new stuff, definately lost some of it's cosmetic appeal. As far quality I'm interested to hear....

The Lowes in Des Moines, Iowa had all "remaining" old Kobalt stuff on clearance a couple of weeks ago, but most of it was individual sockets and a few ratchets. I think they had built up enough new inventory to do the final space clearing for the switch.....

I don't think Kobalt made long 1/2 drive ratchets. How about this ratchet I found surfing Ebay?

WARNING: I bought 4 ratchets from that seller, and have sent 7 emails over the last 5 days asking how I can pay for it with VISA (as the auction says you can, but only takes you to a check/money order link), and I have had NO RESPONSE.

I would avoid that buyer.

No close out sales here at our local Lowes. All they have are the newer ratchets, and man do they look rough and feel rough. They even cheapened out on the selector switch. Its a small, thin, roughly cut piece of plastic.
