Had to order the Bosch 1-1/8" rotary drill on the web for shipping, all local stores gave me a WTF on the orders (239.00 drill for 10.00?)

Was able to get the drywall guns, Bosch corded 1/2" hammer drill and DeWalt corded 1/2" non-hammer drill in store.

We'll see if my big *** rotary drill gets shipped or not.

All of my local stores had them, they just wouldnt fill the order at 10.00. Cant say I blame them and at least the one I tried to play dumb with was honest

"yes we sell them, but there is no way Im going to sell it for 10 bux"

For Lowes to sell their goods? For consumers to buy what they are selling?

Or are you talking about Lowes selling the goods then refusing to fulfill the order?

In the slickdeals thread I read of someone who picked up their orders and then the cashier asked them to come back in the store because the price was a mistake *after they had already signed and paid for the orders*.

THAT is illegal (well, ASKING them isnt, but expecting them to is!)

Ordering a price mistake item cant be illegal....what if it really wasnt a price mistake? How many things have we gotten at insane low prices from Home Depot just because they were clearing out that one item?

After I ordered the eight socket sets this morning, I checked the site again and found the $5 price on the wrenches. Ordered the last five of those, went into my training and came out during a break to find the same voicemail others here got. A manager called to inform me of the pricing error and that they'd only sell one of each at that price. I started to get a little angry, thinking it was just my local store (the one that's had a Hammer Box missing both latches at 50% off for 2.5 years, and PC 18V ClampSaws that were clearanced out everywhere else in 2013 for $89 until recently), then I checked here and saw it was an honest pricing error on Lowe's part. The website showed my orders were "In Process" again and my bank account didn't even have the $46 or so reserved for the transaction.

No problem, I'd pick up my one of each... Went to the store and explained it to the young guy working there. Attractive blonde turned around and said to fill the order. Kid hands me the invoice to sign that shows 8 socket sets and 5 wrench sets. Kid goes to the cage, pulls everything (the whole time I'm expecting the blonde to say something), and I'm good. Well, almost...another manager-type (probably a retired First Sergeant or Sergeant Major by the way he eyed me) noticed and came up to me: "So, you're the guy...". Yes, sir, I'm that guy. I mumbled something about not knowing it was a pricing error--I honestly wouldn't have taken advantage of it if I had known, Army Values and all that--and he walked away. Gave a set of wrenches to my buddy in return for an orange juice and tuna salad sandwich. Keeping a set or two, and giving the remainder to my son and a friend.

Yeah, I celebrated by buying the Channellock 350S pliers. :dunno:

Wanted to add:

I'm usually rational and objective; you know, the sort that looks at the big picture and understands that even the biggest corporation makes mistakes. Today proved that, but I was close to being the subjective and vindictive sort. I went from elated after getting the order confirmations, to angry when I received the manager's voicemail, to understanding when I saw that the pricing error was nationwide.

The way stores handle mistakes like this can make or break a customer's loyalty. When I thought my store was just trying to cover up their mistake I was fully prepared to return the $90 ladder I bought this morning, along with the $50 tool rig and everything else I bought at full price. When I saw that it was chain-wide and that my store was still willing to sell one of each to me at the rock bottom price I was content and they earned my loyalty for the foreseeable future. When they filled the entire order they made me determined to buy everything within reason there as opposed to other stores. Another Lowe's earned this same loyalty--in Richmond, VA a month ago a store gave me a PC 18V area light that was still on display. I'd seen it a day earlier and waited an hour while they looked for a SKU. The next day they still hadn't found one so the manager gave it to me. I bought a circular saw and a reciprocating saw from the same store over the next week or two.

One thing I like about this forum is that many members here seem understanding as well. I can't count how many times I've seen someone post "order cancelled, oh well, glad you guys got the deal", or something similar. What I think separates us from deal-focused sites is the fact that many of us: 1) buy stuff for ourselves or family/friends (to include fellow GJ members) instead of getting greedy; 2) actually USE the stuff we buy and actually know what we are buying; and 3) spend money at some of these businesses even when something isn't on sale, much less 90% or more off.

Stepping off the soapbox...

No sense calling for heads, really. The fine print always has the retailer covered...."reserve right to cancel orders because of mistakes in pricing, descriptions", etc.

The best we can do is place the order and hope.

Some managers are cool about it and offer discounts, some managers just ignore the orders and dont even call about them being cancelled, and some mark the order as filled and deserve at least a little ire when a customer shows up and are told in person that the order was never really filled.

What *I* find funny is that, in this day and age of EVERYTHING technology, there are still glitches like this showing up. Sure, an item or two priced wrong I can see, but this was a lot more than just 1 item. AND on top of that, the prices were still correct on the mobile version of the site.

Charged or authorized? Those are 2 different things.

I have my credit card co. set to send me texts when something is authorized on my card....even my cancelled orders were authorized, but an authorization doesnt become an actual charge until they finalize the order in store (when you pick it up)

Well they called the store and said my order is waiting so i will stop by tomorrow maybe you guys should call lowes an see for sure if it was cancelled and not just listen to the phone call you got. When i go make the 20 minutes drive tomorrow they better not say it was cancelled or i will be really pissed.

They processed the refund before I got there. When I came to pickup the order they told me the order was cancelled and gave me a receipt of the refund. I then had a discussion with a couple managers. At first was offered 10% off anything in the store. I pointed out that if I got a refrigerator the 10% discount would be over $100, but if they honored what they had previously allowed on the order the discount would be less than $100. Finally they agreed to sell me one of each item I ordered. That they finally honored most of the original order has kept me as a customer.

I'm sure all of my orders will be cancelled... lol

Had a voicemail saying my local orders were cancelled. Went to the store and they won't do anything about it. The only one I don't know about yet is the 2 Bosch 1-1/8 Rotary Hammers that I ordered for shipping. 800 customercare says it should ship tomorrow but they can't look into it for some reason.

Was able to score 3 of the 11pc full polish SAE wrench sets for $4.98 each. The metric set is still $29.99. Ordered for store pickup and had no problems. Thanks for posting OP.

Just got a late notification that my order is being fulfilled.

I think it's primarily because I only ordered one set.

I was able to pick up a set of wrenches and 1/2" sockets without problem. Cashier retrieved my order and didn't say a word about it.

Giving the wrenches to my grandson for Christmas to start a tool set for him.

Every time I've ordered online for store pickup, there has been a problem. Of course, I only buy stuff when I see good deals. Between this event, my order last week of a clearance item that they couldn't find (saying they have 2 in stock), and another order a few weeks ago (also saying they can't find it).

You would think if you order something online for store pickup, and they can't find it, they could just trigger it from another store, but nope. Because one store has it on clearance price and another doesn't, shouldn't mean jack. This is a corporate owned business, not an individually owned franchise. (this doesn't refer to yesterday's spectacle).

But going back to yesterday's event, the prices of all of these items are still showing up at the same low prices on search results ($9.98 for hammer drills), but when you click them, the product page shows full price.

Correction, the search results are showing full price now. They must have fixed it within the past half hour.

I've had similar issues, SPN, where an actual clearance item order was cancelled because "someone bought all of them before we could fulfill your order." I didn't raise hell because it was for a couple cheap outlet covers, but what they make up for in service before the sale, they sure lack after.

Edit: Who buys 70+ outlet covers?

You guys put wayyyy to much time into getting a deal that you know is a mistake

Noooo!!!! This is what life is about for GJ Hot Deals thread watchers!!! It is the heat of the hunt for bargains! Not every deal works out. And sometimes, you don't really want it after you buy it, but it is the heat of the hunt that matters ! :willy_nil:thumbup::beer: - Paul

Just curious, is that against the law?

No it is not. Lowes like most online retailers have legalese that gives them an out.

Your use of the Site constitutes your acceptance of the Terms........

Correct Paul......I am checking my orders at Lowes today and they came close to fulfilling one order for a couple drills. One for store to check but I thank this "Big" Deal got away this time. I am cocked and loaded for the next one. Lol

I just got my order today that shipped one 34 piece wrench set and two of the 11 piece sets. Btw the 11 piece sets are still $5 so i guess those were not a price mistake.

My only question is, where is the line drawn between false advertising laws, and corporate policies. (not complaining, just wondering). For example, store shows a low clearance price, but won't honor the price.

First of all, corporate policies are not law, just guidance principles for the corporation. Any damages a consumer may incur from a corporation not following a policy would be a civil issue that may or may not have standing if brought to a civil trial. To many variables here.

As to "advertising laws", most of "Truth in Advertising" laws at the Federal level deal with has to do with suitability of the product and if the product does exactly what it is advertised to do. Very little has to do with pricing of the product itself and forcing a retailer to honor advertised pricing, especially mistake pricing. Bait and switch is another deal but that is not the case here.

https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/media-resources/truth-advertising

This current thing with Lowes happens all the time. The only thing people are out of is a little time and hurt feelings but to actually prove a vendor was malicious and not just a simple pricing error, is a big hurdle to prove and I doubt a few people hurt over some $3 listed price socket set they could not get is going to get labeled the consumer crime of the Century and have start a civil action suit that would actually go anywhere.
