I was just at Lowes and they were closing out their Kobalt 8 piece cross force wrenches for $14.99 (was $60) in favor a a different design. I also saw 1/4 drive socket sets at $4.99 down from $20.

They had 4 sets of SAE, and 4 Metric of both wrenches and sockets at the Roseville CA store.

Not sure if this has been covered yet but does anyone know if Lowes is changing suppliers again? Unless this is just a attempt to get a lot of product out into the world it seems like they are trying to make room for something new.

That is an interesting question, I wonder if they are getting to switch or are they just blowing out inventory to get people to give it a chance?

All I know is most of this stuff is sold out.

I went to 3 different Lowes this past weekend and all of the $1.70 ratcheting wrenches, $5 1/4" socket sets, $29.95 ratcheting wrench sets were gone !!

The lowes I go to still all have a decent supply of the 1/4, 3/8, socket set and cross wrenches. But steadily getting less and less.

I went to Lowes tonight and they only had 1 set left on sale. High polish metric wrenches (not crossforce or ratcheting) for $20. I'm wishing now that I had grabbed them...even though I don't need them.

checked out Lowes just now for the helluvit.
Yes, their 'cross force' wrench is on sale.
they feel crappy in my hands. They look like a wrench that was twisted. thin beam.
Now - the craftsman, gearwrench type 'cross force', where the tool was made with a bigger beam, with a design that they where made that way, (not a twisted tool), feels great to use.

I've never had an interest in "cross beam" wrenches; seem gimmicky to me. If I need to put that much torque on something I'd switch to a long ratchet and socket.

Doubt it. They are just running sales to create a sense of urgency in the consumer. Also they are cycling in new tools to get consumers to say, "hey thats new, I need that". They do this all the time.

I was lucky enough to find a few cross-beam wrenches left at Lowes in Bedford NH at $ 1.79 and bought 12, missing the 7/16 and 10mm - the ones I wanted most. I also checked a MA Loews and they were all out.
I noticed that the chrome on the 17mm is flaking off of the open end so maybe that is why the closeout.
I spent most of last night getting that goo left from the label off. Does anyone have a better method the rubbing alcohol, finger nails and elbow grease?
Also I want to add a little oil to the rachet end, any recomendations?

Soak the ratchet end in ATF or marvel mystery oil. Drain it by letting it lay on paper towels

i use dupont 3812 straight enamel thinner, gets rid of goo and doesnt hurt most plastics, i never had it harm any plastic but theres always a first.
you can also use lighter fluid like for zippo lighters,,,but with all the throw away lighters most ppl dont have the old timey fluid around, i dont smoke but keep the fluid for the purpose of quick goo remove if i dont wanna goo out to the shop for the thinner.

the lowes here by me has the discounted sets in their regular spot in the aisle, end cap displays, and another section for yellow tag closeout stuff, which has all of it in one spot. so look around the whole store, there may be more of whatever you are looking for somewhere else. the regular spot was sold out, but the others has stacks of each item.

they also had the dual sided socket rails in 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 on sale for $4.97 down from $9.99

all of the pass through stuff is all seriously discounted here also.

There are a lot of situations where you can't fit sockets on a fastener. Brake caliper bolts come to mind.

Has anyone seen any of the discounted items replaced with something new and/or restocked yet?

While I no longer use tools for a living, I still enjoy having using, and occasionally buying them. My mistake was buying flex gearwrenches at Lowe's piecemeal whenever I happened to be in the store. Imagine my surprise when I found out they no longer carry them. I did hear they had a great sale on them and sold out quick.
