I friggin HATE LOWE's but they had this drill press for $299 minus veterans discount, so I picked it up this week....so after sales tax I walked it out the door for LOL, $299:)

.....well anyway....got it home and operating....I LOVE IT!...no, really, I LOVE it...fr the price and the features, it's impossible to beat. Yea, it's made in China, but at least it's brand name and parts are available...

It has PLENTY of torque and runs super smooth and quiet...it rivals the huge USA made industrial press I have at work in all regards.....I love the included work light and laser cross hairs....The table and all adjustments work very smoothly....chuck needs upgrading due to fit of chuck key.... but that is easy....the chuck itself is fine-just the way the key fits makes it a PITA

What is the runout?
Run out is zero(for my purposes) with quill extended fully...the laser is something I thought I'd never want but it actually works very well once you aim it properly(mine was dead on out of the box).

Hey, just trying to share what I consider a decent buy with you guys....If you demand industrial grade production equipment, then keep looking, but it you want a really good press for for the bucks for home shop use then this is it....I shopped them all-Grizley(I have their 10" left tilt table saw), Jet, which we have at work, Dewalt, and Rockwell...

The Porter Cable is a really good buy at 300 bucks for a medium range press...I've already got a 200 buck benchtop press I used for 30 yeaars, but this one has more than double the capacity and is much more powerful for just 30% more money.

I ain't sayin it's the best you can get, just sayin it's a danged good buy

How many speeds is it? I want one for metal drilling, my press only goes down to 550 rpm or so.

I wrote this up on another thread:

I bought a Porter Cable 15" drill press from Lowes 2 weeks ago. Brought a HF coupon and although they didn't accept it, they did knock the price down to $270 (also, on their website it's $299, in the store they wanted $329! If anything, get them to honor their site price, bastards!).

Speeds go down to 300rpm and it has a 4 inch stroke. It's all metal, even the top. The chuck on mine wobbles a bit, however. I had always planned on buying an Albrecht keyless chuck anyway, so that wasn't a big deal to me, but it would be to most people. I know, putting an Albrecht chuck on a cheap DP is like putting lipstick on a pig, but hey, I wanted to go keyless and I can always use the chuck on a more expensive press if I decide to upgrade.

I must say, that Albrecht chuck is niiiiice! But anyway, I did a ton of research and you won't get anything close to that DP at that price. The 4 inch stroke is BY FAR the longest at the price. The only other one I would consider, factoring in low price, would be the grizzly 14" heavy duty one. It has a very low speed (140rpm), a shorter stroke (3.25") and a higher price (on sale now for $379 shipped). http://www.grizzly.com/products/12-S...ll-Press/G7944

After shopping around for a larger DP to replace my Delta 8" bench top I dropped the cash for this same Porter Cable at Lowe's. Very smooth, lots of power, and the 4 inch verticle stroke will let me get through 4X4s with ease.
