Hello All,

I ordered a QT-54 a couple of weeks ago from Lowe's and it arrived yesterday on the back of an Enterprise truck...uncrated and broken. I didn't notice the broken part until it was off the truck and on the property. The top 100psi pressure relief valve broke off at the threaded base. The driver noted the damage and said I would be contacted. So, I signed the paper thinking simple fix...

While technically it's a simple fix...They offered me two options; return it and they will send me a new one in two weeks or I can find a local repair shop to come fix it and they will reimburse me the cost of the repair. One of many issues I have with this is that I end up doing all the leg work and if it's not taken apart to ensure there are no fragments going to bounce around in the pressure chamber I am going to worry about the integrity of the unit.

Maybe I should just return it and purchase it elsewhere?

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Retrurn it, and move on.

You are the customer, and they are just trying to put the burden on you.
You will always have a sour taste in your mouth over this transaction. Even if you go through the steps to have it repaired locally yourself, your warranty is probably out the window.

Make them make you a satisfied customer.

I agree, return it. Why pay for something already broken.

Too much money at stake in my opinion. You dont know how it was broken so who is to say there is not other damage? Funny how THEIR fix has the word YOU in it. This is one they should have someone at your house making this right.

If nothing else wrong, make a deal to take some significant $ off as it is like a floor model. Maybe 25%, fix it yourself. If not come and pick it up. Often a store manager will take the easy way out and just take $ off.

#1, why wasn't it crated?...floor model?....someone else's return?

#2, why should you have to chase down repairs? Unless they want to take off 25%, AND pay for repairs, I'd tell them to come pick it up.

I too would send it back. I know I'm a busy person. So I would have no time to mess with something that should not have been damage in the first place. Just them passing the buck.

I have arranged for them to come get it and a full refund. This was a brand new unit shipped to lowes from Quincy in their robust shipping crate we all have heard about. The delivery crew unboxes and un crates everything so they can fit more on a truck. This is the SECOND time I have ordered something to be delivered and it was damaged in the 5miles it takes to get to my home from Lowes. I've learned my lesson...

If anyone wants to suggest an online retailer please feel free. I'll start searching/researching when I get a bit more time.

Thanks again all!

Just keep ordering till you get a good one. EVENTUALLY they will learn not to uncrate it.

I would have had them put it back on the truck and take it back. We recently bought a new refrigerator and it had minor cosmetic damage, noticed when it was in the house. I had them take it back to the truck. The next two also had tiny cosmetic damage. Finally one had a small dimple that only I noticed and before they left I got on the phone and got $100 back for accepting it. If you bought a good unit, you deserve a good unit.

I had ordered 20 5/8" 4x12 sheets of drywall from Lowes. The day before it was scheduled to be delivered, they called to cancel the delivery. it put me in a bind, as I had a crew coming the next day.

They lost a customer over it.

IMO Have them pick it up or call Lowes corporate 800 number and complain. The complaint goes back to the store as a "black mark". You will probably get a call from the store manager.....asking you "What will it take to make you happy". Complaints routed thru corporate tend to effect the manager's bonus.
FYI ....Shoot for the moon.

Next week we'll have a new thread from a GJ Member excited about the Quincy compressor that he bought for a penny at his local Lowes store. It was new, in perfect condition but returned to the store because it needed a new pressure relief valve!
