Our Lowes has a bunch of Kobalt socket sets on sale for 40 to 50% off regular price. They were not giving rainchecks on any of them.

Plus a few other sets. I picked up one of the 40 piece sets to keep in the back of my truck. The sockets are nice and the ratchet is a 72 tooth that is very smooth. COO is Taiwan.

How come you don't like the ratchet? Mine has been ok.

Coach

Yeah, I don't think it's too bad either, I got this set at Christmas,

I would pass on the xtreme, they try to do both metric and sae with them, and they do not work well on metric. They really need to go with a SAE and a Metric setup instead of 1 size for both.

What size dr is that ratchet set, looks like 1/4 dr.

Sears spline pass thru is a better set, as you get a metric and sae socket.

the ratchet set and the wrenches are quite nice. They are well made, not sure about the pliers and screwdrivers.

Agreed.. just about all the Taiwan Kobalt is great IMHO. The mini pliers are China, not as nice as high-end pliers but I like them... same goes for the Kobalt bolt cutter, locking pliers, water pump wrenches, etc. Much better than your no-name China stuff, but not high-end. Not sure about the screwdrivers.

I Like the ratchets/sockets and wrenches. I picked up the 3/8" and 1/4"sockets set for work. I have never been fond of the the Kobalt pliers and screwdrivers. However 11 bucks..cant go too wrong depending on what you are using them for.

I think i have a problem... i have three "sets" in my cart right now, and i don't think i really need any of them, but i'm still really thinking about picking them up.

These three really struck me as bargains:

You are on a socket set binge lately. Are you going to keep all these?

I think i pretty much decided i wasn't going to buy any of this stuff. :p

I do need to stop buying sockets besides 1/2" drive i think, though. And i still have about 400-500 Craftsman sockets i need to sell.

Most of this stuff was cheaper around Christmas time. If you don't NEED it now, might be worth waiting on.

There's been a lot of kobalt stuff for sale at the local lowes. Ive been going often because they keep putting more stuff on sale. Bought an 11 piece sae deep well, 11 piece sae shallow, 11 piece metric deep, 11 piece metric shallow all in 3/8. The sockets are really nice, the chrome is well done. Haven't broke any yet. I use my tools more than a DIYer, but less than a professional mechanic. I also bought a 1/2" teardrop ratchet from loses the other day on sale, an its quite nice. The head is on the thicker side, but that fact hasn't gotten in the way of anything. I also bought an 11 piece metric combination wrench set. They're nice. I like my old Workmans choice better, but I dont have those in metric. Overall I think the kobalt tools ratchets, sockets, and wrenches are worth the money. Just stay away from their pliers and screwdrivers.
