Getting ready to cover the first side of my shop with LP Smart panels. I've watched a couple of videos and read the install PDF.

The yellow siding is rotted in several place so it's coming off.

I am concerned about length of nails to used due to wiring in the wall. Any suggestions on the install?

I don't have a nail gun and was going to use a hammer instead of buying one.
Thanks, Joe

Length of the nails is really a small consideration. Hitting the studs is the goal. Any nail of more than an inch or so is going to potentially damage something in a wall if it misses the stud. As I recall from the LP documentation stud nailing is a requirement, just hitting the sheathing isn't enough.

And, since you're hand nailing it is easy to feel it when a stud is missed, and before the nail is driven home. This is one case where I actually prefer hand nailing to gun nails, and for that reason. Also I've not had good experiences with siding nailers as they tend to overshoot or not flush the nail every shot. Much more control with a hammer.

Mark all your studs and only drive into them.

I installed LP panels with 2-3/8 ring shanks from my framing nailer. Seems to be holding fine

2's should hold as well

Tell us about your walls. 2x4? 2x6? Drywall?

I would use shorter nails than the previous owner/doofus who installed my siding:

But not too short, and into the studs is best.

Whose the doofus who swiss cheesed the edge of the stud instead of drilling a few holes in the center?

Don't leave out the previous owner/doofus electrician that's supposed to drill and keep his wires in the middle of the studs. 😉
You're better off hand nailing. There's a specific depth of nail heads to retain your warranty.
