Has anyone here installed panel siding with batten strips? I'm installing it on my 16x32 with 10ft walls and 5/12 gable roof and I'm scratching my head on how to install the batten strips without waste and/or splices.

The local big box only has 16ft 1x2s. But that would obviously have a ton of waste without using partial boards. Or is that acceptable? They're not actually covering board joints so maybe that's fine? Or do I need to track down 10ft boards?

Yes, I did my house with James Hardie brand siding. Mine were 12’ pieces. Minimize your joints for a cleaner look.

LP Smart Siding, board and batten, and both inside and outside corners are available in 8', 10' and 12' lengths. Used them on a new construction home in 2016.

I'm talking about the batten strips, not corner pieces or larger trim. Those are widely available in larger strips.

I need to know how to splice the batten strips, since they seem to only come in longer lengths.

I asked a contractor I know yesterday, and he said either try to get 10ft boards from a lumberyard, or miter them with a 45 to try and make them as invisible as possible.

Contact Louisiana Pacific and ask their advice.

That's a good idea, I sent them an email and we'll see what they come back with.

I've always used 30 degree **** splices- they're less obtrusive and the pointed edge is a lot sturdier.

Good to know! I assume you'd want the top board to lap the bottom at the splice? Keep water out a bit better.

I might be inclined to cut the 16's into 8's . add the a 2' pc at the tops where there is less water intrusion
Nah, I have 10ft walls but really only need a little over 9ft after the eaves. I should have about 7ft pieces left over. So I'll essentially every 4 full length pieces will yield me 4 more spliced battens if my math is right.
