Picked up the above ratchet, I got it for decent money, and I didn't have a compact 1/2". Only issue is that it rattles like hell. I opened it up, and it does have a 20-tooth gear, but it looks newer than the rest of the rat. It fits nicely down inside the head, the bushing is there under the tin cap, but this thing feels like it has more "runout" or slop between the head and the cover plate than any of my other rats. All the rest of my 90's SO ratchets are sealed head, and don't make nearly the racket when shaken. Are the old 20-tooth usually that loose-fitting, or am I getting less noise from my sealed 30-tooth units because they're greased rather than oiled?

Yes, if I can round up a 30-tooth, I may rebuild it. But for now, does anyone know if these non-sealed ratchets are looser by design, compared to the sealed heads?

I don't recall any of the older ones I had being all that loose, but most have been swapped out over the years. I still have 1 with the red tin cap on the back that I think is F720 that's tight as the newer ones.

I have my SO dealer checking around for any old (discontinued) kits, but it doesn't look good out there... If it comes right down to it, I may put a thin wave washer or something in there under the plate to tighten it up. I got it mostly because I am a completest, not because I have an urgent need for a compact 1/2" ratchet.
Does anyone have one of these LSF720B ratchets that is willing to maybe take some measurements on the drive gear so I can compare specs??? Maybe, as Mike said, the gear is different than it should be...
