well while going through a tool box that belonged to my grandfather, this little one caught my eye. anyone have any ideas on age? it was in a tool box from 1944 if that helps any. thanks:)

That wrench is for clutch adjustment on a Model T Ford which would place its age around the early 1920's

They're very common as ole Henry built a few million "T's"

Elroy has one just like it, spread open in the same manner!!

question real quick. did (GM question) did GM sell socket sets? found some a mostly complete socket set and it says "G.M. CO" and then the socket size on the side. any info?

They spread because the band adjustment required very thin jaws...it is an adjustment tool only, and could not survive when used as a wrench on regular nuts that big, I think 11/16. You also frequently find a Ford script ratcheting box wrench made for the same job, an over-the-counter deluxe replacement for the open end that came free with the car.
