Anyone been following the development of Lubricheck? I think they're getting ready to ship. It's a $40 oil analysis device, designed to check your oil and let you know when it's time to change.

I would think that if it actually works (and that's what I'm leaning on the GJ members to figure out!) it could do what ODB-II readers have done for DIYers.
Anyway, I was just seeing if anyone heard anything good or bad, or if the science behind it seemed sound. I might preorder one; I'm more interested in using it on some of my smaller 4-strokes (lawn mowers, etc) that I swear I'm changing far more than I need to...

You don't need GJ members to figure it out. You just need to purchase it yourself and use it to test your oil changes that at the same time you're sending samples out for an oil analysis from a reputable company. Compare your results.

Testing will cost the price of the Lubricheck plus the cost if an OA ~ $25. Do that a good number of times so you can get a solid feel for the accuracy of the thing. Least that's what this GJ member would do to figure it out. Wanna pitch in? :lol_hitti

The OAs from good labs provide a lot of information. Can the Lubricheck compete?

Well, they're right in your back yard. Why don't you drive over there and ask them? From register.com:

I've been following this over at TDIClub and the very knowledgeable lube folks on that forum seem to be wondering the same things.

Girl has got it right -- just need to correlate results with a Blackstone or other lab UOA.

Gas only currently -- waiting to hear about diesel.

:tard: DOH. I didn't even bother to look that up. I just caught an article this morning, and how the project was funded through Kickstarter.
Turns out they're located about 20 miles north of me, across the border in Wisconsin. I might just have to meander up there and see if I can get one before they ship!

I've never sent my oil off to lab, since it really didn't seem much of a bother to change it on a regular interval, and the overall cost of the lab work would eclipse what I'd be saving. BUT.. the opportunity to buy a new gizmo intriques me. I do wish it would display more than a series of LEDs to tell you the status, though. It would be interesting to know what it 'sees.'
I might just go and order one, and watch what it sees on my vehicles as they approach my normal change intervals. I sometimes push the recommendations (cough, cough) anyway, so maybe I'll finally have something to base that on. I'll be sure to report back what I discover, but will still be lost on the science of what makes that thing tick!

Yes, but I've been watching this product for a long time now with baited breath, and the biggest thing that's been holding them up, appears to be getting the software in the device to give a good correlation with lab results.

I believe they started by comparing with the TMEH1 (which is a similar device, already commercially available, but with an extreme pricetag).

Supposedly this has been out for independent verification and field testing now.
Who really knows. Their delivery date has slipped so much, I'll believe it when I see it.
