6 1/2 months ago I bought a 12" set of knipex aligator's after using my 10" for years and being unable to destroy them. 2 weeks after I bought I lost them I thought I left em on the bumper of my worktruckand they were gone. Well to make a long story short I went to one of our accounts that we visit every 6 months to inspect the pumps and when I moved the usual boxes out of the way there they were. They look much better back where they belong!!

Anyone else ever leave a tool on the job and get it back months or years later?

I must have dropped a palm ratchet in the engine compartment and didn't get it back until I had the ****** changed and the techs found it.

I lost a brand new Fluke 111 the day I got it (ouch) and never was able to locate it. I actually thought I left it on top of my car. One year later I returned to do some work for a customer and she says "oh, you were here before and left this behind" she then proceeds to grab the meter off a shelf, still brand new and unused with the protective film still on the display. A phone call would have been nice, but I was still happy to finally discover where I left it. ;-p

Twice now I have been guilty of leaving a pair of vicegrips locked onto an inner tie rod and recovering them several months later.

I also just lost my small mac screwdriver somewhere last saturday. I hope I find it under a hood in 3-4months when it comes back in for an oil change.

Ive only lost two other tools. One was a craftsman nut driver, never found that one and another was a 10mm gearwrench, which I think walked off with another tech. I HATE losing tools....with a passion.

I'm guilty of leaving pocket magnets in a number of cars, the handy extendable ones you use to pick up bolts you drop... lost another this week, always embarrassing if the customer finds it dangling from the hood a month or two later. I'm only buying the super fluorescent colored ones now but still they escape from time to time.

Over my career though I've found many more tools that weren't mine left behind or attached to cars than I've lost, so that's good I guess.
