I hope you get them. Sometimes Lowe’s has cancelled orders on me, and never notified me!
You are wise - they cancelled everything on my order except the 2x4x8 - $3.67 is the standard price on PT 2x4's in the store and 4x4x8 PT post was 8.48 this morning when I went to pick them up - that's a big drop - almost 16 bucks a few weeks ago..

Lumber futures on the mercantile exchange going down and prices at the lumber yard going down are two different things.

Here in Canada I have been watching 2x4x12' s. They peaked at 19$ a few weeks ago, checked today and they are down to 16$. Promising!

It’s just like the “energy crisis” a few years ago with a touch of Covid mixed in
My buddy works in the industry, was in Oregon a few weeks ago at a mill. They’re running out of places to store all the lumber.
for some reason they’re holding off on orders that that can definitely supply. I’m not sure which side the issues is on. Someone may be middle making the **** out of this.

From some of the videos trying to explain this mess, they did state that it's due to the major mills (i.e. your
Weyerhaeusers, etc). The small mills, timber producers, retailers, and of course customers are all being raped. The larger mills have supposedly posted historic huge earnings, which was part of the videos evidence as to this.

No idea how accurate any of this is, but I found it interesting.

I bet the big consumers and distributors of wood horded a whole lot of it when prices really started to go up, driving prices even higher and now they are sitting on piles of stock and not buying from mills, driving prices lower. Wood futures have taken daily tumbles for the last couple of months.

Those prices at Lowes for the PT are the same as what's online for me, but both show out of stock. The price of OSB at HD has not budged at all. Still $64 for 15/32 non-structural.

OSB is right next to the checkout at HD near me so it's a quick gage on prices. This morning it was still at the all time high.

2x4x8 is under $6 again, so headway there. The bunks are FULL of 2x material, I've never seen them so we'll stocked.

Out of the molding I need, tag gone and all.

So I read these posts and decide to look at Lowe's website.

I go to PT lumber and click on 2x4 and 8'. There are 22 products. The vast majority are described as Severe Weather #2, a few are "square" described as structural fir. All have different item/model numbers. On the Severe Weather #2's the prices range from a low of $3.57 Item #488917, Model #248T225EL and Item #488917, Model #488914 (weird same item, different model) , to a high of $10.64 Item #929019, Model #12000. So lowest to highest is about 3 times the price.

There is only one available at my store Item #468930, Model #2408P which is $5.27. FlaFarmer got his for $3.67. I see one for that amount which is unavailable to me Item #312282, Model #OG220408-AG, which is the item number on his receipt.

So why are there so many different item numbers for a simple PT 2x4x8?

Could be coded to batches they bought and the price they paid over time? Could be regional? I know $5.27 for me is down a good bit from the last time I looked.

Thoughts?

Just bought 2x6x16 yellow pine from my local feed store for 15.59 ea, however fence posts are still very high, 3 1/2-4 were 4.50 ea 2 years ago bundle price of 100, now 8.50 bundle price of 85. Barbed wire and field fence have also jumped dramatically.

I did joke about it, but it would not surprise me it be the new normal. I believe that all this mess is nothing but trial run to see what public will take and adjustments will be made. Now is a good time to be old but its my grandkids I worry about

1/2" plywood sheathing down to $45 at Home Depot in Vermont. I think it was $65-75 last week...
OSB still hasn't moved.

I need some 1/2 hardwood plywood (I think it's usually birch?) And they're out down here.

Trying to wait out a few projects but with the rain I might as well spend an extra $50 and get it done.

2x4x10 pressure treated dropped from 11.89 3 weeks ago to 6.88 last weekend at HD. Bought some at the local lumber yard last weekend for 4.90.
4x8x3/4 plywood dropped from 78.62 3 weeks ago to 54.68 last weekend at HD. Bought some at the local lumber yard last weekend for 47.80.

Until last weekend HD , Lowes and the local lumber yard was all within a few cents of each other.

Agreed. They'll end up lowering the 70% hike by about 30% max and everyone will be excited and that's where it'll stay.:rocketwho:thefinger

I thought OSB had dropped to $37 at HD, I thought last time I looked it was $45. Still not where it should be but it's something.

Try Treehouse Hardwoods in South Burlington or Barre if 12mm x 5'x5' Baltic Birch works for your project. It's actually kinda cheap from them compared to sheathing prices.

It is $37 and change, didn't realize that was the "New Lower Price". At least it's dropping. OSB and a 2x4 are my gage.

Thanks for the tip on Treehouse, bit of a drive but I do need some hickory soon. For now just need to gets my hands on 4x8x1/2 pure bond to built another cabinet carcass.

I looked at the Livonia MI Menards and prices were the same or slightly more then my local Menards(Baxter MN)
👋 Same local Menards. Small Garage Journal world!

I don't buy enough lumber to tell where the current price trend is going locally, still seems to be trending higher for anything I've needed lately.

Why are they cancelling orders?
I think in part because their inventory *****. I just tried to buy carpet tiles in grey. Store says five in stock in this isle. They moved them and had one box in stock.

I look up the nearest lowes and they say 12 in stock. I drive up there and am lucky to find three which happened to be what I needed.

I don't think they are keeping up on price changes. So you order something and they realize they paid 8 dollars for it and they sold it to you for $6 Then they'll just cancel the order.

I’m planning a privacy fence right now. A month ago, treated 4x4x8 were $19.99 each. On Saturday, they were $8.57 each, on Sunday, they were $7.57each. I just looked again and they’re back to $8.57. The rapid price changes are nuts.

I was at Menards last night, none of the lumber had prices, it almost feels like if you have to ask you can't afford it!

7/16 OSB 4x8 is about $39, 2x4x8 premium framing lumber is 4.35 which isn't too bad as it was 7 bucks a few weeks ago. I would assume we will see prices continue to drop.

It seems lumber has come down a little here but still quite high. Plywood is crazy too. And I happened to go down the electrical isle and a 250' roll of 12-2 wire is $160! I checked Menards, HD, and Lowes and they were all the same. Glad I got my garage/shop finished up a year ago. Most of the prices were already up some when I was finishing up.
