I'm building a 10X10 shed off the side of my garage for fire wood storage and other things. I don't want to buy a whole roll of Tyvek when I can get lumber tarps (for wrapping lumber for outdoor storage) for next to nothing. Would I be ok using this? What about using this also on the roof under asphalt shingles? Thanks

Pretty sure that the stuff they wrap lumber in IS Tyvek.

No way I'd put in on a roof. It would break down too easily.

Buy a 3' x 150 roll of tyvek and work from the bottom up. It should cost $50. I also would not use on the roof.

Why bother? It's a shed.

How millions of home are out there with no wrap or just tar paper?

exactly its a shed. The point of tyvek is to allow the building to breathe while keeping moisture out. If the shed is not sealed up tight then its really not serving any purpose. other than keeping moisture off the wall material. Put a roll a black felt under your siding if you are concerned about it.

Thanks for the replys guys. I found lots lumber tarps for free (which the lumber yard guys said is pretty much the same as Tyvek) for the sides. I also got a roll of tar paper and will have enough to do the roof and sides. Also found someone giving away the same age white siding as mine and is a perfect match and also the L-channels, bottom channels and corners. I saved probably a couple hundred bucks doing it the Maritime way - scrounging and dumpster diving LOL

Felt then tyvek, honesty for a shed I wouldn't use either. If your going to use one just use felt all the way around.

Yes my wood is dry. I just want to protect the sheathing for many years to come. Overkill? Well then just call me Mike Holmes haha!
