I'm still a big believer in T5's and T'8's for general lighting in the garage but I've got a bunch of 5" recessed fixtures above my workbenches and in the detail garage that use PAR30's.
I just got some of the new Lumiram 40w PAR30 LED lamps and was pretty impressed. I wrote a review with a few comparisons to some other full spectrum lamps and put them on my website. See http://www.ultimategarage.com/led/lumiram30.html .
There are a lot more quality LED products these days but I still think there's plenty of downside left to go in the pricing. SD
