Folks,
The tool sorting project I have been doing has taken WAY longer than I ever thought it would. Consequently I have not been able to promptly reply to the dozens of requests I have received for tools some of you wish to buy. Even when I decide to stop sorting for a while, and try to answer your inquiries, I often find it difficult to do. For example, if someone asks if I have a few certain sockets, it is easy for me to search through the sockets I have already sorted. That makes it easy IF I do find the units they were looking for. But, if I do NOT find the ones I was looking for, I cannot realistically say that I don't have them, until after all sockets have been cleaned and sorted into brand-name bins.

Maybe you can see some progress in the photos below? Brand names switched around, many brand names added to bins:

I am putting a voucher on Lump here. I had a trip to the area he is in and asked if I could stop and see if he had anything to fill my gaps. Well He IS one of the best people I have EVER been around. What he has shown us is a start to what he has. Fact is he has so many tools to get thru that I forgot some things I was looking for. It was overwhelming to me and I knew what I wanted going in. Wish I had a couple more days in the area I would gladly helped him with his sorting project. As soon as I get my camera and computer to work together I will show my haul from him. Again Lump is a great guy. He will get to you just has a lot of irons in the fire like the rest of us.

Hey lumpy any P&C goodness in your stash?

Yes, Jabber. I definitely have some P&C tools. They are located in one of the semi-clear "shoebox" tubs on the right side of the second photo in this thread, On the shelf straight above the 1953 Snap On catalog. However you cannot see the name from this angle. I hope to be done sorting by this weekend. When I am, I'll lay out all the P&C tools that I have, and post a photo. Then you can see if I have anything of interest for you.

Yeah, most of it, I suppose. I have been inspired by Jack Vines' style (Packard V8), and want to do what he does, which is to buy a bunch of tools at a time, and sort out just a few for his own tool box. Then he sells the bulk of the rest of them. The net result of this style is that you hope to end up with a wonderful collection of top-quality automotive tools, with very little actual investment when it is all said and done. When Packard V8 explained in a Garage Journal post that this was how he was doing it, I decided that this was for me, too. So most of my tool finds in these hauls will get sold, while only a select few will find their way into my tool box.

My collection began with the older tools I inherited from my dad...(mostly Mac, along with some Bonney, Blackhawk, Herbrand, etc). Added to my own tools which I bought new (mostly Craftsman, Snap On, and Mac), it was a nice small assortment. But I still needed more for my street racing and vintage car activities, and ended up buying a lot of cheapo tools. So now it is my dream to replace all the cheapos with "truck brand" or equivalent tools, which I could never have justified as a hobbyist.

Thanks to Jack Vines for the inspiration and idea.

I sincerely hope you don't look back one day and discover this was a sisyphean task - all the cleaning and sorting and shipping, and cleaning and sorting and shipping, and cleaning and sorting and shipping... Good luck with it all. I've got well over 80 different USA brandings in the ratchet "obsession", and that's just for square drive reversible ratchets. Start adding in wrench-only brands, early hex drive brands, push-thru's, etc, and the list grows considerably. Ya might need a few more bins....

If you happen to come across some Bonney open end metric wrenches during this Herculean effort, shoot me a pm if possible - there are a few I'm needing to fill out a set. Or I can pm you with the few needed - I just hate to add to the growing pile of want-list emails you have. I'm in no rush, and I'd hate to see you O.D. on chemical fumes or go blind from all the chrome...

Holy SH1t! A WHAT kind of task...? "Sisyphean"??? LOL. You sent me scrambling for the dictionary on that one!! I gotta stop hanging around with you educated guys. My poor ol' brain can't keep up!

Anyway, once I found the name in reference books, I remember old mythology about the Corinthian king condemned to roll that rock repeatedly to the top of the hill in Hades, only to have it roll down again, eternally. But sheesh...I would never have figured that out without the internet!

In the meantime, I have a lot of Bonney tools, but most of them too old to be metric. Let me see what I have, and I'll get back to you.

Boyd I believe those are Plomb pebble line wrenchs. I was looking at them when I was there. I knew someone here had inquired about them so didn't take the time to check them out.

Also I don't remember seeing any metric Bonneys in their. I may have missed them but didn't notice any.

Red is right about those wrenches...almost. They are Proto Los Angeles Pebble grain "line wrenches" (or "flare nut wrenches"), etc, etc. Even 11 (Dane) asked me if I had any, and I do have four of them. So I laid them out on printed-out copy of Dane's request email.

I am also interested in any P&C tools or early Proto (Proto LA) which you have, Lump. But I will be patient. That must be a herculean task to inventory and organize all of those tools. Some of the guys here envy you that task, I'm sure.
