Hello, I have been lurking around here for a few months getting ideas and reading up on a lot of the old threads. I am going to start a detached garage build next week
I originally planed on doing this way back in 2004 but it never materialized. I wanted a shop for my race bikes and trailer among other things, but in 2007 my trailer and racebike, tools, etc. were stolen so I kept putting it off. Now I'm finally ready to go. Here is the garage I am building more or less; 2 car garage with attic space
I am adding a 10' workshop behind the structure for projects and general hammering and pounding. I'm having radiant floor heat installed and plan on cooling the back 10'x32' workshop with a window unit only when I am using it.
Hopefully it will be finished by November and I can spend most of the winter in there installing cabinets, benches, shelves etc.
I'm having a 200 amp service installed and I will be doing all the interior wiring and lighting.
The garage doors will be R18 and I will be installing R13 in the walls and R30 in the ceiling. I'm not sure where I will insulate the ceiling, either between the levels in the joists or in the rafters.
I'm also torn between drywall and plywood for covering the walls and ceilings. Drywall looks nicer, but is less durable, but is a little cheaper.
Sorry to ramble on, but I'm kind of excited to be getting this underway after all this time. I will start a thread that I will hopefully update every few days as construction moves forward. The forecast for the first week looks warm and dry so I'm hoping they get the foundation all built and backfilled without any rain.
