Lutron dimmer wiring *surprise*

I took the switch plate off my existing Lutron DVCL-153P, and am surprised.

This is a single switch (not 3 way) so I expected it to be wired as the image below on the left labeled 4A. Instead, it is wired as the image below on the right - 4B - that is, a red/white wire from the dimmer is connected to a black wire - as if this were a 3 way switch. There is no other switch anywhere to control these light cans.

Here's a picture of the actual dimmer wires:

The Green arrow points to the red/white wire connected to a black wire (surprise).

ALSO, the Red arrow points to a bundle of white wires - am I correct that the white wires are Neutral?

What I'm really trying to do is take out the existing Lutron dimmer and install a Feit Smart Dimmer (WiFi). It requires a neutral wire (which I think would be from the bundle of white wires identified by the red arrow above.

It says the red/white is for dimmer attachment to a 3 way switch... Not for anything else.

So you'll have at least 2 problems to solve..

1) identify what that wire attached to the RED/White is (that black wire), Not sure why the original person installing it use that wire....only you would be able to tell since you are there.

2) that wifi switch requires Neutral... you'll going to have to find out where in that birds nest of the 3gang 4 gang is your neutral wire for that circuit...

I have that same wifi switch but got it from Costco 2 pack version $30 for pack of 2 switch . hooking up is easy.

It have marking of ACL for AC Line (HOT wire) and ACN for AC Neutral pretty self explanatory.... these two are incoming AC hot and neutral.

The LOAD is to the load of the light... there is a 4th terminal marked YL/RD that is for syncing the 2nd or 3rd dimmer if you choose to add one later... the 2nd and 3 dimmer does not use the LOAD terminal...

There is also the Ground with Green Screw.


So if you are only using a single switch with no other 3 way of 3way dimmer... then it's just identify the AC Line and Neutral. then the Load in your birds nest.

Could it have been a three way at one time? Sometimes things get wired at rough in and then not used.
