LVL Beam 30’ Span

What’s up everyone! Here for some help again. I’ll try and give all the necessary details. Your input is greatly appreciated. If you need more info please let me know.

Coming off the back of the house with a low slope roof for shade over back patio
Trying to figure out my mid span lvl beam sizing.
The midspan where the 2x6 roof rafters will break is going to be a 30’ span.
Looking at LVL charts, I’m not great at it, I’m thinking a double 24” LVL will be sufficient.
We do have snow load here in illinois
Details:
Rafters coming off house are 2x6x12 to the LVL. Then another 2x6x12 from the LVL to the outer beam (much smaller beam span on outer edge not 30’ like midspan)
1/2” Osb decking over 2x6
Steel roofing over Osb
Posts are steel (way over kill but go them from a job so decided to use them. Steel I-beams)

I don't remember if the data for those engineered lumber products have information for that kind of loading and use?

At those longer spans, what governs is the deflection, but patio cover you will be at the most generous deflection allowance. My gut says you are gonna be okay (?), but I don't really have a feel of what the loads are, especially the snow.

You can get the same beam size in a single width 3 1/2 "PSL". I'm sure it's a heavier piece though.

I had a job once where I specified a 5 1/4"x24" PSL by like 26' long for a retrofit second floor support job. I didn't ask they contractor how the got it in, but when I went to the job site, it was already installed. I've found that a lot of wood framer contractors don't mess around and complain much, they just get the job done somehow.

I have a pair of 24” LVL’s spanning 24’ on a machine shed holding up half of a 48’ roof and there is almost no deflection in the center when there is snow on the roof.

Not sure if that helps much but it’s a real world use I guess. Like said above a lumberyard should be able to give you load charts and such.

Thank you guys very much for the responses. I never really thought about calling the local lumber yard. So I called today. He asked me a few questions and called me back 10 minutes later and said I need x4 18”ers. So I’m going to run with that. A lot more than I thought, but I don’t care. I want it to last and only have to do it 1 time so I’m going with it.

You bet. This is the garage.

1 and 1/8 advantech floor.

This was built in the before time. 2019. $22 bucks for 3/4” cdx. Couldn’t afford it today.

He didn’t specify blocking but it seemed the right thing to do.
