Take a roller and roll your soon to be lawn. That will imbed the seed into the dirt somewhat. A lot of people don't even put straw down, but it realy helps to keep the moisture in so the seed will germinate and grow.

If it were me, I would probably get some more straw, spread it out even if you have to do it by hand, then water things in. Once the grass starts to come up through, don't rake out the straw, but mow everything and chop the straw up along with the grass. Just go in opposite directions so you get an even covering. If you have a rider, raise the deck up to evenly distribute everything. After about three or four mowings and the grass toughens up some, then you can give it a light raking to get rid of some of the excess . But don't rake hard as you'll pull the grass up as the roots will still be small and tender.

I just bought a 50lb bag of more seed and I'm going to take your advice. I'm going to lay this all down and work it in as best I can. It's about half an acre so I doubt I have time to roll the whole area! I like the mow idea though and I certainly won't rake it and jerk it out by the roots. Thanks!

The first coat of the green on the floor upstairs is down. The epoxy is going to be about the same color. I like it. I know it's going to get dirty and show dirt, but I still like it.

Keep an eye on those zip ties. They'll eventually become brittle from UV exposure (unless they're of the UV resistant variety).

yeah...I'm on the hunt for some metal brackets to tie two pipes together. I know I've seen something to handle the job, but I have no idea where. How long do you think it'll take for them to get all brittle?

I got my speakers hung today! Can't wait to hear them in action, but the power still isn't hot. I have no idea what these electricians (or anyone) is doing anymore. They're all so close and just taking FOREVER to just finish. I wish I could just do all this **** myself (stupid work).

The painter is also taking forever but he's almost done too. Somebody has to come and "grind" or sand or something the concrete tomorrow so he can do the epoxy on Tues and Weds. This was supposed to be done last week! Outside looks pretty good in it's final color though. Dormer door is going the same color now.

I spent most of the day (after hanging the speakers) watering the grass seed. I have sprouts though so that's good! 4x the recommended amount of grass seed I better get some sprouts (the first application was likely blown away). And fortunately it's supposed to rain here off and on all week. I can't ever remember wanting rain so badly!

I've got (first coat anyway) green epoxied floor. Hopefully the second coat will get on in the next day or so. Gutters and asphalt left to wrap this project.

The green upstairs doesn't match exactly but that's ok.

I was thinking of painting the "sidewalk" I have in my indoor TEXACO gas station, green, but was not sure if that would be cool.
Now thanks to you I am sure, I love it man absolutely fantastic :thumbup::thumbup:

Thanks for the inspiration, love your garage

Really a great build. All of your planning worked out very well. The floors look great too. Will be fun to see what your projects will be and once you get your grass gets growing, I'm certain you will be having a ton of fun and lots to keep up with.

Have enjoyed reading your thread.

Ody.

Thanks guys...finally got to start moving stuff in this past weekend and got my first "project" completed...swapped out the thermostat in my truck. I got my hoist and fan hung and stereo installed too. The hoists hangs a little lower than I thought it would, but it should still work OK.

Asphalt supposed to go in next week and then I'm basically done done. It's been a fun project. A bit frustrating at times, but that's the norm with things like this!

My bronco on the other hand is a MUCH MORE FRUSTRATING situation as I really f*cked up with the guy I chose. He's now taking his sweet *** time and there's no clear end in site. I was supposed to have it back 6-8 weeks ago (depending on when I asked him) and now it's looking like another 6 weeks if I'm lucky. It's such a ****** spot because if I get real pissed at him and just go off then maybe he rushes or just does an otherwise **** job, but if I say nothing he'll just linger about forever. Ugh. And I've had to go to him to help in order to get anything done. I went down a couple weeks ago and pulled the body so he could get the drivetrain installed. This is how she looked when I left...and probably how she looks today.

I should have just forced myself to have patience...waited for the garage to be done...and done all this myself. Oh well. Live and learn.

Congrats on the the first garage project but the situation with the Bronco project *****.

Any chance that once you get the lift installed, you can pick it up "as is" ?

Yeah my plan is to give him until the end of May and then I'm going to bring her home in whatever shape. Not telling him that though. And he's going to owe me money back so that should be fun but I care less about that and more about just getting her done at this point! The problem is if I wanted to go now it would be a nightmare and I'd need a couple trucks and trailers since there are pieces everywhere.

Renting a Uhaul with a hitch and open car trailer might not be a bad idea.

Yeah that may be what I ultimately have to do. Fortunately for him I've gotten very busy at work and can't do anything with it for a few weeks anyway so he has a bit more time. I went down there on Monday and got the chassis degreased, cleaned up, and painted so it's ready for the drivetrain which he said would be done by the end of the weekend. I'm not holding my breath!

Here's a pic of the chassis before paint. Think I'll have a whole truck in 2-3 weeks?!?

Well my garage is officially and finally DONE! Asphalt was laid this week and is just sitting there hardening up (or something) now. Looks really good and I'm ready to start outfitting the space.

I'm glad I dragged my feet on the lift decision and purchase because I was planning on a 4-post lift, but after messing with this Bronco I've decided a 2-post is the way to go. Not as easy to store a car on, but much more utilitarian. Now I have to decide on which lift to go with. I need a base plate lift because I want to be able to remove the top from the Bronco while it's on the lift (and store the top above the lift). And I'm tall so I want a high lifting lift. And since I was planning on a 4-post lift and they're narrower in general my space was designed in a way that I'll need a relatively narrow 2-post. I've been looking at Bend-Pak and Atlas and with the Atlas half the price I'm leaning that way. Especially since I won't be using it everyday as if it were in a professional shop. I hate going cheap and ending up buying twice, but I hate spending so much money that I don't need to! Decisions, decisions.

Do any of you guys have any experience with using Ubiquity products for throwing wireless network? My garage is JUST outside the range of my current wifi network from the house. I have a wired home network as well and was looking at something I could plug in to the wall inside the house closest to the garage to throw/extend the wifi to the garage. There are so many different options I don't know what I should get though. Does this look like the right thing to use?

Yes on Ubiquity. If you have not made a decision & moved past, PM me with a phone number & good time to call & we can talk. In general, very robust. If you still have your sketch-up I would love getting that as offered previously to someone. Love the garage!!

Grass is coming in nice, looks great

Regarding the lift I just pulled the trigger on a 10K 2post that appears to be a challenger, only $2500 (can) so I hear ya on the affordability scale.

Thanks for the help offer on the Ubiquity. I think I'm going to take you up on that next week if you're around. Send me your email address and I'll email you my plans. They're typical blueprint plans though. I don't have a complete Sketch-Up of the final garage.

My biggest problem right now with the lift is the width. I planned on a 4-post lift and they need a lot less width. Nearly 2 feet of difference there. Doesn't sound like a WHOLE lot, but I am so close to the edge I need to make sure it'll work. I basically am going to have to put one of the columns under the ceiling in the middle of the room at the edge of the loft. So the tricky thing is making sure I have enough room for the car to rise up into the open space. Distance from edge of column to edge of car is important to me but not really clear!

The place really came out looking nice. I think it needs a little something though, maybe an old gas pump sitting off the the right (when facing) side. It has to have a lighted globe for nighttime.

Nice shop. Really came out nice. Seems like it fits the bill in terms of being multi function.

I am (still) planning on a residential build, pole style most likely. We are limited on zoning to height, so that is a factor.

I dig the OSB. Personally, I don't think drywall has any place in a garage. Our attached is 32x24 (1 16', and 1 9' door) and is insulated with drywall. It just gets bumps and bruises.

It looks like you ran a separate electric service instead of pulling from the main residence? I would like to do this, but I assume you have to pay the extra service fee as well, correct?

What did you end up coating the floor with? (i.e. which product)

That's a really good idea. I completely missed a lamp post or something during all of this. An old pump would be even better. Hopefully I can still make that happen now that everything is buttoned up. I should have consulted you from the start. You're full of great ideas!

Thanks Crazy...I appreciate it!

I'm really happy with the OSB too and would have already punched a hole or two in drywall so it was a good call.

We almost had to run separate service. The garage is built on a second lot that I purchased next to our existing lot so it already had separate everything. I tied into the water and sewer, but running separate electric was better for a couple reasons. It's cleaner in general and didn't require messing with anything at the original house. It was actually cheaper too at the build phase. It will cost a BIT extra as we have to pay 2 county tax bills each month on it, but it's only like $6 or something so I wasn't too worried about it. The biggest pain is that the electric company won't combine my bill so I have to keep track of two now but with online bill pay these days that isn't such a big deal.

I'm not entirely sure the exact brand we went with on the epoxy. I would have to guess Benjamin Moore since my painter uses that pretty exclusively for paint, but I'm not sure if they even make epoxy. It is epoxy...I know that. Ultimately we had to muriatic acid the floor twice, and then grind it a bit because we had fiber coming up in the concrete due to it being covered in plastic immediately after the pour due to impending rain. Luckily the concrete company covered the cost of that for some reason. Good GC! Then there is a coat or two of some sort of primer and then two coats of the epoxy. My painter didn't want to do two coats, but I made him because I wanted a thick and durable covering. If I did it all over again I would put a coat or two of poly or something over it after also. I didn't because my painter said it would be slick, but I'm thinking now he just didn't want to do it and my daughter has already scuffed it up with her scooter! I'm not losing sleep over it since it's going to be a working garage with a lift and frame off rebuilds happening so it's bound to get dinged up. I really like the epoxy. It wasn't cheap. I think the material alone cost like $600 to have enough for two coats, but I'm planning on staying here for a long time. Otherwise I'd probably just seal it and be done! If you're real curious on the exact epoxy product just let me know and I can find out for you. No worries.

So in my never-ending lift research I found this company: http://www.liftsplusdepot.com/#!lifts/c161y

Their prices are almost too good to be true. The first lift on that page HAS to be the Atlas BP8000 as the specs are a carbon copy. For $300 more than at Greg Smith's it will be delivered and professionally installed in 48hrs?!?? The cynic in me just keeps punching me in the nuts on this one. So much so that finding this great a deal is actually pushing me towards the BendPak even more. I'm just so worried that I'll go cheap and regret it in 6mo or a year as soon as the "warrantee" is up. I would never forgive myself if I ruined one of my cars or hurt someone because I was trying to save $1-2k. I realize I'm probably being over-dramatic, but this has become a really tough decision for me so I'm trying to talk myself one way or the other however I can!

yeah you would think that after all the time i've spent on forums like this i'd be better at searching, but I'm terrible at it. I can never find what I'm looking for. Even when I'm looking for something I know I've seen before I have trouble finding it with search. I know this has to just be a personal problem as I'm sure the searching works, I just don't know how to do it properly!

I ran a search for this and read some stuff, but couldn't find anything about my similar situation. My house is wired so I'm hoping I can plug a wireless router in to a wall closer to the garage and it will pick up the signal via CAT5e in the wall and send it across. It looks like Ubiquity makes what I need, but I haven't been able to find actual set up instructions. Not sure if that picks up a wireless signal and amplifies and/or repeats it out, or if I plug that in to ethernet at the wall first. I'll search around and figure it out. Thanks man!

PM Me and I'd be happy to assist with the network stuff :)

Nice! So what lift is that then? Got be a happy camper :bounce:

Very happy camper at this point! I did go with the LiftsPlusDepot guy. I spoke with him on the phone first and he was actually able to install this on Tuesday, after I placed the order on Saturday!

He said the lift is made in the same plant as the BendPak without some of the bells and whistles. I have no idea how much of that is true, but I do know all the lifts I was seriously considering are made in China so I wasn't too hung up on that. I got this 9000lb, symmetric lift installed completely for right at $2k. That was better than anywhere else I was looking and the speed made it even better. If this one shits the bed for whatever reason and the warrantee didn't cover anything I could replace the whole thing and still be around where I would've been with the BendPak without having to worry about the delivery, install, etc. I'm not delusional and think this is as good as the BendPak, but for my use (a few times a week maybe) it should be fine! If anyone is interested here is the site. The owner is also one of the installers, Shawn Coleman. Really nice guy and great service. He made a happy customer out of me anyway!

Toyota ?!?! You do realize that should be the Bronco sitting up there ? :D

My god I know...I'm so frustrated with my Bronco situation right now. The guy just isn't doing anything on it. He's treating it as HIS side project and doing a little work here or there as he feels like it. I just told him yesterday he has about a month before I come collect everything and at that point I'd tell him how much money I expect him to return. Hopefully that will light a fire. I have a busy few weeks coming up so couldn't do anything about it until then anyway. The worst part is that now that I have my garage done and lift in I could've done all this myself. Never in a million years did I think it would take him so long. My need for instant gratification really blew up in my face this time!
