M12 battery adapter wanted

I want to be able to put an M12 battery into a Bosch 10.8v tool. The batteries are physically almost the same size, just different polarity and different shape for the 'cutout' at the bottom.

I have an idea. I'm sure at least some guys here have 3D printers.

If an adapter could be make that goes on the top of the M12 battery, wiring to put the polarity to the right terminal on the tool, and then up into the Bosch tool.

I can't be the only one that wants one of these. I'm sure once one can be made, it can be adapted to other brands as needed. Of course I expect to pay for whatever I get and I'm sure anyone here willing to take on a project like this would be asking a fair price anyway.

Let me know if this is interesting to you either to make or to have one made.

You’d probably have an easier time converting a 12v slide pack, like dewalt or makita - to work on these tools.. how are you going to overcome the fact the battery slides into the handle? Would your adapter slide into the handle, and then leave a full battery handing out under the tool?

I suppose you’d have to make an adapter go into the handle, and make a 90 degree turn to insert your other battery hanging out the back of the tool..

Ive said once before it would be interesting if somebody made an adapter to use m18 packs on m12 tools.. you’d just have to combine the m18 usb charger adapter, to and m12 battery pack shell, probably on of the xc packs...

in my example using an M12 battery in a Bosch tool, the M12 battery slides into the adapter just like it would slide into an M12 tool. Then the adapter slides into the Bosch tool just like a Bosch battery would. It would stick out a little further than a battery typically would, but we're talking 1-2 inches at most, like an extended mag, not like an Uzi.

If one could be made, there shouldn't be a reason not to make one for Bosch batteries into M12 tools, or any brand to any other brand.

You are not the only one. I want one BADLY! I have Bosch 12v planner and I want to get the 12v Router and 12v Jigsaw. These are 3 tools (of a few others) that Milwaukee has no answer for and does not seem to be working towards one. Yes, they have an oversized, weak M12 jigsaw with barely any visibility of the blade, but not as nice as the Bosch 12v jigsaw.

So yes, I am willing to put money towards a bounty if anyone with the skills is able to produce an adapter. I have also measured the approximate length it would end up having and for the 3 tools I want to use it with, it would have no impact on using the tool, it may look funny, but tools are for getting work done, quickly and properly, something having multiple battery platforms with different chargers does not achieve.

You would need the CAD drawings for both batteries for a start... then there’s the complexity of finding suitable electrical connectors that would fit the physical space and make proper connection with the other device. The design would need to be modified to accommodate after marker connectors somehow. The adapter would also need to be design to allow for assemble, which may add additional constraints to a simple fit due to the need for locator tabs, pins or even screws...

Even with the CAD drawings as a starting point, this would be an enormously complex project... how much are you willing to pay? ...I doubt it would be enough!

I doubt you’d actually find the CAD drawings for both!

One up side... while just checking on the off chance that McMaster-Carr actually had CAD files (they don’t)... I discovered that they have an IOS app!!! Very handy... now in my engineering resource folder!

There are a lot of 3d cad files for both of these batteries, and I am going to have my son work on making one. He is very busy, but hopefully in a month or 2 we will start working on this, when it is completed, I will update. If anyone has any input to offer, specifically the resistor we should add for the 3rd pin, that would help a lot. With the resistor, we can have the full operation of the tool with shutdown protection, something we would not have if only using the positive/negative terminals.

I’m going to try and take one of these and some soldering to make an adapter.
DIY m12 battery kit
and pair it with one of these to make a full converter that still allows the batteries to be clicked in
DIY battery adapter
It could all end in disaster, or it could allow me to use either brand battery in either tool. Once they arrive from China I will update.

But I’m going to try and find a dead m12 or Bosch tool and battery at the flea market first. Might be cheaper and faster.
