M12 Battery Question

New guy here, from over at the HAMB. I got a local deal on Milwaukee's little cordless sawsall. It is a hungry little sucker! Been looking at tool sites and they show two different batteries: a squarish one like I got, and a little round one that looks like my little Bosch batteries but probably bigger. Nowhere is it spelled out that both type batteries fit all the tools. They probably do, but I googled all over and couldn't tell. Thanks! for info!

Unless something changed recently all M12 tools and batteries work together.

Yes all M12 batteries fit all M12 tools. At this point in time the 2.5 mini and the 5.0 XC are the pick of the M12 battery litter.
This^. The 5.0XC is what you want instead of the 6.0 battery.

More cordless tool lore to learn. I remember my first Makita cordless drill in about 1987. Still got it somewhere.

Yeah, it’s just a difference in capacity. The little round one is usually a single-row battery with a lower capacity (1.5-2.5Ah), while the squarish one is a double-row, higher capacity (4.0-6.0Ah). Both will work with any M12 tool!

Just got me a new 5.0 battery. Package was the hardest to open, ever. I'll just go get the tin snips next time. Or maybe use the saw to saw open the package.

The newer 2.5Ah high output, # 48-11-2425, or the 5.Ah high output, # 48-11-2450 is really the way to go.
I agree, Milwaukee battery packages are really a bit*ch to open...

Reminds me of one time I forgot my edc pocket knife so I stopped in Home Depot and picked up a package of these.

I keep a decent sized knife in each car, for when the EDC loses the E.

I have left the office occasionally to fetch it, and other uses.

I had several knives at hand opening that battery a few days ago. Sharp blades weren't enough, specially after I visualized myself laying my leg open and cutting my good pants.

Those "electric scissors" or rotary cutters work great for clamshells. Well so I hear. I've been meaning to buy one for quite a while but haven't yet. PF did a review on them not that long ago too yet I still can't decide which one to buy.
