Digging into the specs, the M18 has 400 rpm more rotational speed. The M12 lacks a depth stop, but the M18 is 1.5 lbs heavier.

I was looking at the 2416 too, but I only sink 1/2" lag shields into CMU block for hanging up stuff in my garage. I previously did that w/ my 2604 Fuel hammerdrill, but it wasn't quick by any stretch of the imagination.

For 3/16" holes, I'd just stick w/ the hammerdrill if you have it already. I don't think either have a hammer only mode...

BTW, if you're ever curious about additional specs, check out Milwaukeetool.eu, the Europeans have a much more rigorous testing requirement, including vibration levels and SPL.

I've been dealing with this too.

They make like 10 M18/M18 Fuel versions....http://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-...l&product+types=rotary+and+demolition+hammers

and then 2? M12/M12 Fuel versions....http://www.milwaukeetool.com/power-...l&product+types=rotary+and+demolition+hammers

I have a big Bosch corded, and plan on getting an even bigger Hilti corded...

so I think first on the list will be the M12 Fuel. That's perfect for hanging hose reels in masonry, drilling masonry for sheetrock, smaller red heads in the slab etc.

I have a hard time believing that the M18 can really knock out the big stuff. But Milwaukee does surprise over and over...

This has HAMMER MODE ONLY as well...

Yea, I think I'm going to go with the M12 Fuel. It says up to 5/8" holes.....and if I'm doing more than a handul of 1/2" or larger, I'd rather just break out the big corded....I'm still not convinced that these can just keep on going. But the Milwaukee videos say they can.....IDK.

The M12 Fuel is also $199 which ain't cheap, I think the M18 is going for 179 now,the original M12 is 129.
