M12 Fuel Ratchets

Alright guys, the fuel ratchets are available on HD's website, I will be buying one tonight! But now I'm torn on which drive size to get.

So I already own a cordless Snap-On 14.4v 3/8" cordless ratchet (Rated at 40ft/lbs), and a non-fuel 1/4" m12 ratchet. I love both of them but the extra power is really enticing, and I've been drooling over these for months.

The 3/8" Fuel Ratchet has 55ft/lbs of torque, while the 1/2" has 60ft/lbs. I'm very impressed with those numbers but a little bummed in the small gap between the two sizes, as this makes my decision a little harder. I use 3/8" drive sockets about 65% of the time. Although I could just as easily use 1/2" sockets instead if I were to go with the 1/2"(I'm a maintenance mechanic so the small difference in socket diameter between the 2 drives is hardly ever an issue).
Also it is a $20 difference between the 3/8 and the 1/2

Long story short, do I go with the 1/2" for the supposed 5ft/lb difference?
Or go with the 3/8" for a bit more versatility?

Id go 1/2 since you have the other 2 sizes also gives your 1/2 impact sockets more use and maybe down the road you could convert it to 3/8 if need be.

I use 3/8 drive as much as possibe and have relegated 1/2 drive for high torque applications. I've really never understood the purpose of 1/2 drive air ratchets.

Im so bummed these came out I just bought snap one 1/4 cordless ratchet a few months ago. I traded in my Milwaukee for it bc this one smoked it. Much more power.

But this new Milwaukee ones stronger than snap on so I gotta use the snap on till it dies I guess


Also I only have cordless ratchets in 1/4. my 3/8 air ratchet has 130 lbs of torque and a cordless ratchet can't touch that yet. If you have an air compressor I'd save 3/8 and above for air

Honestly I think the 1/2" is just clone of the 3/8" with a 1/2" anvil. It's the only way I can imagine that there's only a 5ft/lb difference, and I'm guessing that is from the larger socket size? Idk. And I feel your pain I just bought the 1/4" non fuel a month ago because I got tired of waiting and now they have one with 40ft/lbs.

I don't think a cordless 3/8" would replace and air ratchet but it supplements it nicely. I prefer not having to use an air hose. Within the last year cordless has almost exclusively been my go to. I only have to drag out a hose or cord maybe 25% as much as I used to.

I just noticed one other thing that may be a deciding factor.. The 1/2" is 25 rpm slower. 175rpm vs 200rpm for the 3/8".

You'll generally have more room to put an adapter on for larger sockets and the larger bolts require more tq. Get the 3/8.

I will be buying the 3/8 fuel. I have the nonfuel 1/4 and have found it really useful but slightly underpowered.

Alright, so it's telling me that there's going to be a $35 shipping charge because there is no availability in my area.. has anyone ever encountered this before with Home Depot?

There are multiple items listed on HD's site that are new from Milwaukee that aren't available to purchase yet.. my guess is they have to wait for release dates and actually receive the products before they start selling. I think it's September..

All the new flashlights and hardhat lights are the same situation on HD's site.

Well there was a $35 shipping charge due to "limited availability" so that settled it for me and I went with the 3/8" since I'll probably use it more anyways. Order is placed, says it will be shipped tomorrow. We shall see. I will certainly upload photos when it comes! Thanks everyone!

next year ill be buying all three as long as the reviews are good, i cant wait. i have the 3/8 non fuel and its good, but the battery life is poor as is the power. still saves me a ton of time though

*sigh* I called home depot to verify and they said they don't have any of the Fuel Ratchets in stock and don't know when they will. They don't know why it showed them as available. They will be sending me a refund. Sorry for the fake news, I was going off what someone else said.

What battery are you using?? I get fantastic battery life out of the 4.0 batteries.

Ugh I really wish they'd up the rpms on the 1/4 inch. It's slow, it's the main reason I traded in to get my snap on one. 350 rpm vs 250 rpm. I'd say it's the one power tool they do better than Milwaukee, also really like the cordless screwdriver too

The 3/8" mini impact is the bomb too. If you already have the 14v batteries it's only $200 and it's well worth every penny

That's what I've heard. I already have a m18 fuel 3/8 impact. And an m12 fuel impact driver. I feel like it'd redundant with having the snap on screwdriver too. Hell I could barely justify the m12 driver
