With the M18 Fuel Drills and Drivers getting a re-release soon with updates, any chance the same will happen to the M12 Fuel line as well?

I don't know much for sure but I'd imagine that Milwaukee will try to keep the price of the M12 line as cheap as possible. If the M12 line got the new smart tech update then they'd be in the same price range as the M18's.

Kinda like how the 2011 Ford Rangers were costing the same as the F-150's so Ford killed off the Ranger.

Also the M12 line is more homeowner oriented, Milwaukee is probably trying to excite the contractors glued to their smart phones with M18's.

It's already that way with a lot of their tools. I've been trying to break into the Milwaukee lineup but it's difficult to figure out where the value really is. I have a Bosch 18V Drill and Impact Driver set. I was hoping to get an M12 Impact Driver for tight spaces but when I look on Ebay I see M18 Fuel Impacts cheaper buy it now than the M12 Fuel Impacts. I've seen a couple of the M18s for right around 100$ and the M12s for about 115$. Likewise I was looking at their oscillating multi tool because I've got some drywall repair coming up and the M12 is 80$. The M18 is 90$. Well then why not just get the M18? I think I'll somehow end up with some Milwaukee cordless stuff as no one has a lineup like them but I'm having a hard time getting started because the pricing doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

M12 isn't aimed at homeowner from my experience. M12 has a better ergonomic for a lot of job tackled by pro or hobbyist simply because they're much lighter than M18. When working on ladder, M12 works better all around and it's smaller to carry on your belt.

I'm a M18 drill and Fuel impact owner and own couple M12 tools but I wish a lot of time I could have M12 instead. I might get a M12 Fuel drill in near future

I love both. The M12 skill saw doesn't cut it:lol_hitti

A M12 sawzall wouldn't make the cut either.

I love all my M12 impacts for auto work, but there's no M12 1100ft/lbs impact wrench yet.

To get the best of both worlds, you have to have both.

Right tool for the right job. I have both M12 and M18 tools (both Fuels). My Drill and Impact driver are M12's but my Impact wrench (and hopefully soon have) 6.5" saw are M18. For some tools you need the extra umph of the M18 line but others you may not.

IMO, for generally purpose or automotive work, I like the M12 version of the drill and driver better but if I was in construction, I would want the M18 versions

When I build a deck, I'm screwing all day. [ahem.... :D ] I have reached for the M12 non-fuel impact just as much as I have reached for an M18 FUEL impact.

The M12 came in a kit with a drill and two batteries that cost $125 on sale. The drill has a chuck that doesn't work properly, like all of the M12 non-fuel drill chucks, but the impact is fine.

I really like the one handed bit change of the FUEL collet so I picked up a Wera kraftform bit holder. It cost about $12. That transformed the little M12 impact into one of my favorite tools.

For carpentry work, I prefer the cheap and cheerful M12 non-fuel. It's small, light, and fits nicely in my hand.

It's nice to have two systems but for hex bit driving, there's no need for FUEL power. If I let the M18 fuel impact hammer away at full power, it would just twist the hex shaft, jamming it into the collet.

The value is in holiday deals, like the M12 2494-22B with 3/8" drill, 1/4" hex impact, charger, 2 standard batts and one XC batt for $99. Or the M18 2606-21CT for $99. Or during pre-Christmas the 2656-21CT for $89. Or awhile back you could get the 2691-22 combo RECON for $130 to $140. These are all fantastic ways to ENTER a platform. Once you've got a charger and a couple batteries things get easier. None of these items are Fuel, however, if that's what you must have.
