M18 Battery interchange

I have a standard M18 drill and impact driver, Charger and 2 batteries. Last Christmas the Kids got me a 3/8 impact. These tools work great. Real nice for runs to the junk yard and late nite work so I dont iratate the neighbors.
This Christmas the Kids got me a 2663-20 bare 1/2" impact. I was excited til I went to use it. The batteries I have dont work in it. Which batteries are for the 1/2 impact and can I use my present charger?

Had the same thing happen to me. V18 batteries and M18 batteries will not interchange between the older tools.

So now I have a brand new unopened M18 battery still in the package. I tried to install my existing V18 bats on the new 1/2" impact and it would not work. Sent back the impact and purchased the 1/2" earthquake.

Need an M18 extended use battery?

1st photo:

left battery is XC or extended capacity and near the terminal slots, there is one strip key-way. The right battery, compact, is what you own and has two strips key-way.

2nd photo:

under the drill near the terminal, there's also two strips key-way that can accept either XC or compact batteries. However your 1/2" high impact will be different that only let you use XC battery only. They run about 70-80$ each new on ebay.

The 1/2" impact can run a burst current up to 18-20A when you pull the trigger. For the compact battery to handle that, you'll kick the overload protection and it won't work. Compact can handle up to 10A burst.

i just recently made the mistake

i have the 1/2 impact and drill batteries and charger all M18

saw a light on amazon, fortunately it was cheap

in my rush to buy it, i overlooked it wasn't M18 and turned out to be the v18 and now it sits in the box unused.

stupid me

anyone need one of these?

All M18 chargers are the same. It doesn't matter which M18 charger you use, it will charge either XC Or compact batt
