M18 compressor vs m18 stapler/nailers

I have the M18 18 gauge nail gun and love it. I have been planning on picking up the m18 15 or 16 gauge nail gun also for other trim work. But have a small job at a friends house stapling some carpet on stairs. My small trim compressor is 6 hours away so that leaves me with a heavier dewalt compressor on wheels that I don't really want to drag into his basement. So that got me thinking about just going to buy the m18 narrow crown stapler. But not sure how much I would use it after this. It would get used once in a while for things like soffit, carpet, woodworking, etc. But thinking it would spend most of it's life on the shelf. Then saw they have an m18 compressor that I could use all my current nail guns with. But now I'm back to dragging an air hose around again, so kind of defeats the cordless idea. But the compressor would be nice for certain things, nailers and staplers I already have, blow gun, airing up tires(already have the m12 inflator that stays with the wife), etc. So now I'm at a crossroads, do I spend 300 bucks on a stapler, or 350 on compressor, or just run air hose from outside down to basement and keep my money? Life is full of these complicated decisions! I'm never against buying a new tool but I overthink everything and try to get get the tool that will be the most useful.

I dont know how your house/shop/basement is set up but could you bury a Pex line from the compressor under ground to the basement and put a coupler down there?

Air hose until the compressor goes on sale for $249 or the M18 nailer you want goes on sale. I have both but don’t use either much. The M18 staplers, finish nailer, pin nailer sure are convenient. Bought the framing nailer but gave not used it yet. Looks like I am using air less and less. The battery stuff is expensive though and probably not as durable. In return for convenience you pay twice as much.

This particular situation isn't at my house, just a small job for a friend.
Sounds to me like you need both Scott 🧐
You're probably correct Cam. If it wasn't for the tool want list that is a mile long I would run and get them both today. Gotta figure out which ones I need more and which ones will get the most done and keep plucking away at that list until I have them all.

Too much pressure bud, sounds like you should compress your wants and needs into the most versatile solution.

How’s that for an answer or did I just hose myself? 🤨
