I just got a new M18 2754 3/8 impact and it's making a high pitched whine when I pull the trigger. It's ear piercing. Is this normal? I had an m12 impact that didn't do this. Is it the higher power of the tool? Does it go away? Thanks

My 1/4" one does the same thing. It will sit there and whine for as long as you can stand it. Currently it sits on my coffee table waiting for me to send it in for warranty repair.

I've requested a return from the seller on Amazon. Damn it. Really really wanted to play with it and waited impatiently for a week to get it. Ah well. Thus is life.

My M12 doesn't do that. Instead of returning it to the seller, give Milwaukee an e-mail and see what they can do for you. Maybe they'll have you send it in and they'll send you a different one.

I literally received delivery of it today. I think I'll return it to Amazon so I know I get a brand new one.

So, went to home depot and tried out some of the displays. Turns out a lot them whine. Even other brands. Why is this? Brushless motor?

My Dewalt brushless impact makes that noise. It's definitely the brushless motor. I think the noise is the high amp relays (mosfets) that are switching thousands of times per second. They're a core component of brushless motor controls.

Yes it is the brushless motor. My High torque 1/2 fuel whines as well. It''s just the current nature of the small brushless motors.

My m18 fuel impact doesn't whine at least not enough that I have noticed.

Of course I LOVE that thing.

Removed a G56 transmission yesterday didn't even fire up the air compressor.

I am resuscitating an old thread, but I have exactly the same symptom with a M12 2555-20 (FUEL 1/2" Stubby Impact Wrench).

The stubby impact is fully functional with an unpleasant quite loud high pitched noise.

I initially posted this there:

Noise is expected. Annoying noise; I am not sure.

I am wondering how supremekizzle handled his situation.

:)
