M18 sander storage

I finally picked up a Milwaukee m18 bare tool random orbit sander after months of trying to justify needing it, I figure after trying to wind up the cord on my old rigid and fit it back in the case 10 times, the cordless will be worth it. My old rigid random orbit still "works" but they don't make the oe friction disks for it anymore and it eats the aftermarket ones almost as fast as it eats sanding pads so I can't feel bad about the new one. My biggest problem is that I loved having the old rigid sander in a sturdy blow molded clamshell case because it had everything I needed for sanding in it. I could grab it and know I was ready to go, and even the design of the case held the sanding disks flat which was a bonus.

Are there any case options for this thing? Are there any other sander cases that will hold it? I'm willing to spend a few bucks on something that works, but a $200 packout case with a kazien foam insert is pretty stupid for a $100 tool.

I also hate the tool bags, they offer nothing for protection, and things get thrown in there and broken and lost.

Are there any decent storage options for this thing that are not going to cost more than i paid for than the tool?

Yes, if you want you can buy the pelican style Apache cases from harbor freight that come with the foam inside. They make several different sizes. If you have a HF nearby you are probably better off bringing the sander with you, or you can take a shot and order one online. The size you would need is probably $29 or $39. I dont think you will find a better option for the money from what you desecribed you wanted.

I dont have the sander myself, so i cant really estimate what size is the best option, but wanting to have a space to keep a battery may force your hand to get a larger one. Best bet is to go look at them in person of course. Hope this helps.

My feeling is getting a case for a differernt model sander wont do anything for you over just keeping it in a tool bag. A small tool bag can be had at Home Depot for like $5 if the small ones are still around in the store, but they are online also.

You can always get both, and keep the sander in a case and all the accessories in a bag. Or just get a bigger case and remove enough foam to store whatever you want.

I think I’ve given up on cases myself.. most of my cordless stuff has a HF locker dedicated to them since i really just use the stuff at home. Somehow they still to wind up in a pile in my dining room. The trucks at work literally just have the cordless tools thrown into the bottom of one if the utility doors. People would have a stroke if they saw how banged up they get.

I was walking around the old Walmart today looking for something that might work. I already have a few ammo cans at home so I figured I would give it a try when I got home to see if everything would fit.

Everything that came with the bare tool and one 9.0 battery all fit inside the ammo can just fine. There is no room for a charger but that's not really a big deal for me. The metal can does not offer the most protection in form of padding or holding things securely, but the case should take a pretty good beating and it is waterproof.
