Hi,

I had a few bad areas that I tried to fix after I had put down 3 coats of Ben Moore M40.

I mixed a small amount and placed it in a few areas yesterday and now it is still tacky. I would like to try to use a Thinner or solution and wipe it off and put a new coat on the whole floor. I must of not had the right ratio on the small batch.
This product is 100 percent solids 2 part epoxy.

Thanks,
Dan

What is MEK, and does kick mean dry or soften? Right now wiping it down is causing a sludgy mess.

MEK (Methyl Ethyl Ketone) is a strong organic solvent. There are solvents that are stronger but they evaporate too quickly to be useful. There are also solvents that evaporate at a slower rate but they do not have good dissolution properties. MEK provides the best balance of strength and evaporation.

MEK is flammable... make sure that there is no ignition source like an open flame (pilot lights included), loose electrical wires, the heat gun I suggested... lol... not to be used together... it's either or... Also, the rags can spontaneously combust if you pile them up together.

IF you use the heat gun... if you get the material to kick... it's going to cure the way it looks... so... if it looks bad... it's going to cure that way.

If you were to use the hairdryer method
how long should You heat it?
Are we talking 1/2 hour or 10 minutes for a 6 inch circle?

You could try a hairdryer if you don't have a heat gun... The hair dryer would take ALOT longer... maybe 20-30 minutes for a 6" area... A heat gun would get it done in 5-10 and you would have to be careful not to get it too close and boil it...

What you are hoping for is to get the coating to 140-170f... Some lower end 100% cycloaliphatic coatings can B-Stage which is what I suspect has happened here. That means that the coating reached the second stage of cure and stoped (There are 4 stages... A,B,C,D). I'm assuming that you were at least relatively close on the mix ratio otherwise you would have been sure that you weren't. In either case, heat is likely to help and can't hurt.

Again... don't mix the heat with the MEK... .:shocking:
