Cross threaded a fastener so will need to buy a rethread die. I contacted the car dealer for the part in question and it is long discontinued. The local auto parts store sell those Century Tools rethread die from China. Lang sells theirs under Blue Point, etc. The cost online looks similar so wanted to get the Lang version. If I buy off the truck how is the pricing typically? The SO/Blue Point version I have seen at $6.25.

How much of the bolt/stud is messed up ? If its just the last couple of threads and the nut goes past them when installed, just cut or grind off the messed up part. What are you working on ? Just about every 6mm stud I have seen is replacable. How about a picture.

I bought a m6-1.00 tap on eBay a while back. I'd guess $8. I fixed quite a few messed up threads with it. That's where I'd buy a die from. I'm sure the truck is double $$ lol.

I've got a widget that restores bolt threads. They're not cheap, but work on most everything.

That Steelman would be perfect to start at the good portion. If I could weld, I'd cut the bolt off and put another one in. A good nut will begin threading but when it comes to the third and fourth threads that is where it is pretty bad.
That's good that the Century tap-die are good, O'Reilly has a rethread die coming in for me and I also ordered a regular die off that big online sellers site.
And aside, Toyota sells the M6-1 flared nut for $6.58 each. While at O'Reilly's they had a 4 pack for $5. I'll probably order some stainless versions that is 50 for $10.

what is that part off of? Some places have catalogs of parts like that which the dealer no longer sells.
That is a mounting tab that attaches to A/C-Heater blower motor on a '97 Lexus LS400. The lower part of the glove box mounts to this bolt and another into the dash under mount. In old times my Toyota parts guy (He retired about 15 years ago.) would be able to mentally come up with the item. These days with so many different models the parts counter people are not well versed to know. Even the basic dash M6x1 flange nuts the counter person could not come up with one off the top of their head. Toyota doesn't stock them either so that M6-1 flange nut had to be ordered.

Thanks! Excellent diagrams! I have that top diagram and was not able to find the part. Was looking at Amayama's diagrams of that area and it didn't jump out at me so I'll need to search a bit more.
From what I recall that mounting bolt/clip is located in this area: Tomorrow I'll get a snap of the actual area and post.

The re-thread die came in and there was enough decent thread for it to go on straight. It met up correctly to the still good threads so that was lucky. Of course having shaved a bit of metal off the % of fit is sloppy now. I hope that it is strong enough to torque up to maybe 6-8#'s when the glove box is installed. Getting a new one would be nice if I can find a part# for it.
