I was using this ratchet and it suddenly started free wheeling. Took it apart and now I can't the mechanism back together. I've never seen anything like it. There's is some type of spring thing that I think is supposed to attach to a tang on the pawl selector. This thing is driving me crazy. Help me out.

Place the tang on the inside of the V portion of the spring and then slide forward (while pushing down) so that the tang ends up outside the edge, squeezed between the edge and the spring.

You might have to adjust the screw 'just so'. The design is somewhat sensitive when it comes to that.

Step 10 is the important part now. Tighten the screw all the way and then back off 1/4 of a turn and see how that goes.

I recently took apart my MAC torque wrench that has that mechanism. Took awhile to get it back together.

I believe the proper screw tigtening is this process-

Tighten screw all the way down
Back off 1/4 turn

That's from memory. I could be misremembering.
