I bought a MAC 280Q impact from a pawnshop a couple days ago. Great condition, works good. I believe it is the old model Aircat 1355XL.

What maintenance does this gun require aside from oil through the inlet once in awhile?

Drain the oil out of the hammer case and change it once in a while. There's a drain plug on it if you look close. It doesn't hold much, I don't know exact amount, but a 1/2" version I believe is about an ounce. I use synthetic motor oil in mine. Whatever you use, it should be fairly thin.

I heard that one of the detergents in Marvel air tool oil isn't too good for the seals in the aircats.

Is it true? Who knows. But just in case i use a different oil.

The only Aircat I have is a TH-1000. I use Snap On air oil because the shop buys it but I put a couple drops in daily and then once a month lightly grease it through the front nose cone. I have used it daily for the last two years and its still like new.
