Mac box: how much better than HF

I recently picked up the 56" hf box. I think it was 760 out the door... I have found an older MACsimizer MB1300 I believe that I could get for 950. I should be able to take mine back still. How much more of a box would the MAC be? Seems to be in good shape but Not sure it would be worth the headache or not.
Thanks,
Brian

Nothing wrong with the hf box. It's superior to anything Cman or other box stores sell. I'd use it over the Mac box anyway. Save the money and put it towards something else.

only thing about the HF is the drawers have a decent amount of lateral flex. figured the mac might minimize that some. and it's 5" deeper.. (if the drawers get the benefits of that)

Does the mac box have ball bearing slides? I personal love my mb1550. It has ball bearing slides, but is the only style without the big drawer on top. I think they are one of the best boxes made.

A Macsimizer is definitely worth an extra $190. And you'll be able to get all your money back if you ever sell it.

Also I just looked up the warranty on the HF box and it's only 90 days. So it'll end up costing more than the MAC if you use it enough to wear slides out.

Look with tools you really do get what you pay for. More expensive tool boxes use better slides, thicker metal, more welds, they are heavier duty. That being said if your box will be static most of the time, and what you need is space then a cheaper box will do. Just remember if you load it up to the hilt, then the drawers may bind a bit, it may flex some if you move it around and the casters may eventually wear out. I have boxes from Snap On, Mac and ITB. I needed space when i bought my ITB and the 56" size was less than $2,000. It stays in one place and holds my tools.

From what I saw on a google image search, that Mac looks identical to my Mac Tech 1000 box save may be for better casters and the name plate.

My Mac box is heads and tails a better box then any of the Cman boxes I own and even (IMHO) more robust then the Snap On boxes I looked at. If I'm not mistaken, I think they use some of the thickest metal of all the box makers out there.

I have a butcher block on the top of my box and use it as a rolling work bench. Moving from rack to rack in the shop all the time and think nothing of putting something up on the box and beating the tar out of it

Again, just my opinion, there is just no comparison.

Macsimizer all the way. They are almost 30" deep and are rock solid boxes. That box will last a lifetime. I have no experience with harbor freight boxes but i have owned around 6 or 7 mac boxes and i have loved them all.

It might look the same but the Macsimizers are much stouter boxes than Tech1000s. Not exactly sure which Tech box you have but the MB1000A is similar looking but 10" narrower and a couple inches shallower than the MB1300.

The MB1300 is also a lot heavier. 800 pounds vs. 425 which can't be explained by the modest increase in size. Top drawer load rating of the 1300 is 150 pounds higher.

The price difference is also a good indicator of relative quality. The MB1300 cost 4 grand in 1994 which is the same as the MB1000A cost in 2009.

Please don't think I'm hatin' on your Tech series box but it ain't in the same league as the Macsimizers.

You're not kidding! That's the first thing I noticed about the HF box. The double slides drawers flex more than my cmans single slide drawers with the old compound slides? Wonder if you could brace the insides of the drawers so they didn't flex like that?

No problem my friend

I have no doubts the Macsimizer is better than my T1000. What you said actually did more to reinforce my point.

If the Macsimizer is leaps and bounds above my T1000 and my T1000 is leaps and bounds over everything else I ever looked at then that 950 box is more of an unbelievable deal than I thought.

Plus you have the warrenty in the event the slides go bad or even start to fail.

Just received all the slides for my Tech 1000.

My Mac upper sits on a HF 42" lower. The Mac is superior, but not by a lot. That said, for the difference in price in your case, I'd go for the Mac.
