Have been keeping my eyes open for a decent box, and came across this... doing a little homework before going to see. Anyone have any input on things to look out for or what might be a fair value?

It's for a home workshop... I'm outgrowing a small cheapo rollaround. Don't want to invest a lot, but would like something that will last a while. Thanks.

that is actually 2 boxes put together
either the owner did it on his own or they used a 'kit' that mac used to sell
the kit was 2 brackets that bolted to the caster mounts to attach the 2 boxes together.
I used to want to do that really bad but never found a matching box to the one I had

Thanks, RSanter... that's what it looked like to me, but I don't have much experience with these boxes. Are they decent boxes?

i'd guess they were late 80's / early 90's vintage.

i dont remember seeing the kits from mac to put the boxes together after that.

they look to be 26" wide 500 series boxes.

all depends on the price..:dunno:

Use to work with a guy who has the older style of those boxes bolted together with top chest and other cabinets bolted on the sides. Loaded full used everyday as lead tech at a ford dealer since the boxes were new. Very well made boxes from a time when a mac product meant quality.

Thanks, all. Together they're 53" wide by 36"tall by 18" deep. Any recommendation on what they might be worth? Seems to me I'd $500 or $600 for a couple similar-sized cheap impoets from a big box store, so if these are in good shape and functional thwy'd be worth that and would last longer... but I'm really out of my element. Is my logic sound?

used toolbox prices vary wildly from region to region, but $500 or so depending on condition, sounds about right to me.

if you're cramped for space or your needs change,
you can always unbolt the plates from the bottom, buy an additional set of casters, and have 2 26" wide boxes
