I have two mac 1/2" impact wrenches. I have mostly used the aw434b but I think it's starting to get weak so I dug out the other one which is a aw234a. I got to wondering what the differences were between the two, but I'm not really finding any info on the net. I figured the 434 was a natural progression of the same tool or something. One thing I did know for sure, the GJ board could help me out.;)

I do oil them before I use them. I think the air supply must be good since the other one works so well. Maybe I'll take it apart and see what I can see.

the air motor vanes are either worn out of chipped. if the gun is weak try replacing the vanes and back plate gasket. its a cheap fix. in my opinion if you don't send it out for rebuild it will never be like it was new. if you like the gun alot just send it in for repair.

Thanks for the tip. I'll probably replace those two parts and then see how it feels and go from there.
Thanks,
Joe

Ok I found, in another thread on GJ, a link to parts4tools.com They have a tune up kit which includes vanes and the gasket and some o rings, etc. It's for an IR 244. The guy in the other thread said that's what the Mac aw434b is. So I'll try that and see if that helps.

The AW434B is actually not an IR impact. The AW434 and AW434C are but Mac made the "B" themselves. Also, I don't think the 244 would be the equivalent but would need to check. I think the vanes in the 244 will be about 1/4" too long, the 231 vanes I believe are correct. I can verify on Monday for you.

Oh man! thanks for the heads up! Verification would be great. I won't be buying any parts for a week or two.

The motor size is the same as the 231C but the hammer case configuration is more like the 232TGSL so if buying a Tune up kit get one for the TGSL, as I believe the kits come with the hammer case gasket which should work from the TGSL. Let me know if you have any questions.
