I'm working on replacing all the slides in a Mac MB1500 box. Mac was nice enough to send all new slides under warranty, but I'm finding some of the new slides they sent aren't allowing the drawers to close all the way.

In the attached photo, the top three drawers use light duty slides. Those roll smoothly and have a "click" to them upon closing all the way. Drawers 4 and 5 will open and close smoothly, but will not close completely. They only go as far as they are shown in the photo, and then hit some sort of hard stop. Drawers 6 and 7 open and close smoothly, and then bind as you shut the drawer. Again, they will not go any farther in than shown in the picture.

Not sure if the medium duty slides are defective or if I did something wrong install wise, but I find it odd the light duty slides work perfect and all of the medium duty slides are having issues. Any ideas?

If there is a "catch" when the close all the way, it is probably closed instead of open. Hard to explain with out looking at the slide itself.

See if there is a little "switch" on the inside end of the slide. I run into this at times with soft close slides.

If there isn't a little catch, then I would pull the drawer completely open and see if the slides are mounted and seated correctly.

Do you have pics of the slides themselves?

Hi Keep,

Thanks for the reply. I attached photos of the light duty slide (pink bumper) which works perfect. The medium duty slide (black bumper) will not close completely. This is an issue with all of the ones that were sent.

I have no experience with drawer slides. This is just my observation.

Looking at the slides, do you think that the black plastic end bumper is too thick? If you remove it, does the drawer close all the way?

Also, what about the black middle plastic bumper? is it also causing the drawer to not close all the way?

Try removing the end bumper first. If the slide still does not close all the way, remove the middle stop and see if that helps?

This was very similar advice to what Mac Tools technical support had to say.

After removing the black bumper at the end of the slides, the drawers closed fine. There appears to be some sort of manufacturing defect where the bumpers do not sit completely flat on the slide, but rather are slightly tilted up:

The bumpers pop right off, and using pliers I bent the tab slightly forwards which would force the tabs down flat against the slide:

After bending the tab forward and re-installing the bumper, the bumper now lays flat against the slide. This issue would only occur when the drawer was installed on the slides. Without the drawer, the slides could ride up and over the elevated bumper. With the drawer in place, the slides just hit the raised bumper and couldn't go forwards any father.

Of course, I'm now having a new issue. The bottom two drawers on the left slide won't close smoothly. While before, the drawer would open and close and then hit a solid stop, these bind and get more difficult to close until they stop. See the following video of a properly operating drawer and the issue I'm having...
