I've heard many positive reviews regarding SO airtools. I have not heard much reviews about MAC air tools. That said, there are probably good MAC tools out there, but popularity wise, SO would be the more popular between the two companies.

depends on the vintage of the tools, if its anything Mac made within the past 5 years, I would go for the Snap-On.

MAC stuff isn't what it used to be. They're using Taiwan manufacturing now and still trying to charge old school MAC prices. My vote would definitely be snap-on.

Mac air tools are just re-badged tools from another company. If you want a Mac impact or air ratchet, just buy it straight from Ingersoll Rand or Nitrocat/aircat and save a bunch of money. Plus, the few times I tried to warranty anything from Mac dealers, the guys acted like I was trying to steal from them.

You will not be disappointed with a Snap-On air ratchet. For impacts, I prefer Snap-On, but you can't go wrong with IR either.

too broad a question, are we talkin 1/4 3/8 1/2 3/4 or inch drive. impact, ratchet, butterfly etc..i got diff prefs for diff jobs, 1 or 3/4 for the big trucks i have big honkin IR,never had any other brand in that size so cant compare, i prefer my 1/2 CP for ease of switching from F to R but if it dont break lose i get out the old mac thats stouter but isnt as user freindly, for 3/8 i prefer my butterfly but its not very ballsy so sometimes i have to use the IR 3/8 gun,i got a nice 3/8 IR ratchet but its too long for some jobs so i revert to the old mac or snapon, the macs not as strong but gets in tighter spots,i have 2 different styles IR of 1/4 in ratchet, havent used the new one as much, old dog new tricks syndrome i guess, had a 1/4 no name brand but it broke so i damn sure didnt like it

snap on blows mac out of the water not just on air tools either. Snap on has the best air ratchet (FAR72c) and air hammer on the market IMO. Impact guns I prefer IR though.

Now I love Snap-On but the Matco MT2858 ratchet blows the Snap-On outta the water. To say otherwise is just fanboy talk.

IR is very hard to beat for impacts in general. SO air ratchets have lots of balls and I like their drills and air hammers. My Blue Point 3/8 air ratchet is disappointing to say the least.

I have an older (12 year) Mac 1/4 inch drive sealed head air ratchet that I am very happy with and I have a Mac 3/8 impact (older) that I bought used and runs great.

I'd stay away from SO impacts though, many of my customers have had short life with them.

Lets just call a spade a spade, all the truck brand airtools are far to expensive for what you get. Your much better off with an IR or Aircat.

Our 1" IR impacts at work get the ever lovin **** beat outta them by the tire guys and still work flawlessly.

I don't want to bash, so I'll only say that Ive had a few air tools and the SO stuff has far outlived any other brand I've used. I don't oil them as often as I should. Ive had a few items still work after being run over by trucks coming in /out of the shop when someone was being "helpfull" and left my tools on the floor (my own fault, I know, for not watching the tools closer).

For air ratchet the Snap-On FAR72 is the best. I have an older Mac that works well (pre china) When it comes to air hammers and Air drills Snap-On leads the way. When it comes to Impact wrenches for me it starts and ends with IR. I've had really really bad luck with Snap-On Impacts and the problems Ive had have been hard to have resolved. I still own a old Snap-On FAR70 I bought back in the 70's. I still use it for oil pans, timing cover bolts.
