I've got a Snap On set but if you can pick up a 20 piece for $200 from Mac, I would go that route.

I prefer my snap on instinct (I like the hard handles also) The soft handled Mac screwdrivers are nice, I have a random one. 20 pieces for 200? Yeah that's a deal. Snap on cant touch that price even on a super sale. I paid 75 for a 6 piece set, worth every penny.

I believe the MAC screwdrivers are an overseas product, S/O is USA. If that matters to you.

Are you referring to the 20pc Macsimizer set which comes in/on a foam organizer "tray"? If so, I've got the green handled set, and I've got a set of Soft handled Green Instincts.

IMHO hard to say one is better then the other. It would amount to asking whats better...Silverado or F-Series. I would best describe the MAC as not hard nor not soft grip...I do think/feel the Tri-Lobe design of the mac offers more torque and grip, but the Smaller diameter of the SO's lend themselves to better "free spinning" in the palm.

IMHO buy whichever one is most comfortable for you. The organizer tray of the MAC's is a very nice feature and its a very complete set.

I like Mac screwdrivers ok, but I love my snap on sets. I have the softgrip instinct, and a set of orange hard handles. Of the two I like the hard handle set better but both of them perform nicely. I would like to try a williams set, just to see if their is any difference because my snap on dealer claims they are different shanks.

IMO Snap-on makes the best screwdriver. I have a mix of the older soft handles (my favorite, they just look like hell after heavy use), and the instincts. There have been screws I could not break loose with another brand, but the snap-ons are designed to deliver more torque where you need it. I also have a few cman pros, mostly long flatheads, for slight prying like getting a lock rod off a door handle inside a door.

How about the new mac screwdrivers, red/black version of proto Duratek screwdrivers, made in USA

I have the old, hard-handled snap on set for well over 20 years and they are going strong, and have a new set of the soft handled ones. They're nice, but not my go to because my Uncle (a former Matco driver) gave me a set of their screwdrivers that have the fuzzy stuff on them (you know, the orange and grey handled ones) and I think they are fantastic! Esp when doing work with slippery stuff they feel great. Not sure about the longevity of the grey stuff, but so far they are doing well.

If this is something that you will use daily to make your living with go with the snap on's. If this is something you may want to sell in a couple decades get the snap on's.

The new macs are real nice. But I'd still go with either the black hard handled Williams set or the Snap Ons. I love my Snap On screwdrivers.
