Mac "pinless" impact swivel socket?

I did do a search, couldn't find anything. Also, I'd like to post a picture but I cant figure out how to get the picture from my phone onto my photobucket account. It's ironic since I opened an account just so I could post pictures on this site.....

I've got a Mac impact socket that is pinless. It isn't like the Matco pinless instead it works like an oversized wobble extension. It's a big square that drives the upper half.

After seeing everybody's comments about exploding swivel sockets Im wondering if this is a good set up?

I don't think so. When my pin style broke Mac broke at least it still stayed together. Now, thanks to them switching designs, I have a pinless and when it wears out it comes apart. Sometimes shooting the socket to god only know's where.

Mac tools has use pin impact swivel type before the. Tried for "painless" and too much problems. Which they had switched back to pin type again...

The pinless mac's sucked. They would wear out an fly apart. Evem their pin style ***** they break often. My snap-on's have held up the best. Matco pinless have held up ok.

MAC's design reminded me of putting a square peg in a round hole. I got one warrantying an older pinned type a long time ago. It kept breaking (15mm), I gave up and got a MATCO set that's served me well for a number of years now.


I don't know what style MAC is using these days.

so which is lower profile (more slender) Matco or Snap-On?

I need some that can squeeze into tight spots and yet reliable.

They are both pretty equal in the thinness depart as long as u get the new lazer welded ones from snap on. The snap on one's I have aren't lazer welded and the are slightly shorter then the matco ones. The pin less style of matco "seem" to rotate smoother but I can't really tell the difference. Matco pin less style are supposed to transfer more torque since they have more axis to transfer torque on.
