Mac ratchet question

I recently purchased a 1/4 inch mini handle Mac ratchet from eBay and noticed that the two screws in the ratchet were not tight. I tightened the screws up and the ratchet would slip. I backed the screws up just slightly and it works fine. Is this normal?

sounds like the plate is warped and hitting the pawl. Buy a rebuild kit from MAC dealer.
